I take 30mgs/Abilify and 20mgs/Celexa. Works like a charm. The only problem is that the Celexa has made me rather apathetic. I sat down and tried to write a short story, b/c one of my friends told I should try writing again, and I couldn't do it. Not just writer's block, but some kind of chemically-induced weirdness. Now, I'm stuck on the Abilify for the foreseeable future, so I was wondering...are there antidepressants that don't put your brain on lockdown like the SSRI drugs? Can I maybe use lamictal (psychotic depression, btw; part of Bipolar I) ?

I think with SSRis its common, most of them did for me but strangely celexa didnt, it gave me energy where as Lexapro made me terribly lazy/apathetic/unmotivated. Have you tried Lex ?

The tricylics and maois are the only ones that don't cause it for me.

I tried lexapro with low dose luvox and at 5mg found myself not caring so weaned off after almost a year. Phillipa

I can't answer your question but wanted to say I wrote some decent stuff on AD' and personally know novelists, poets and writers of all stripe creating while on psych med.
Just to say it might not be the med. Might not. I don't know for you. Maybe there were other factors that moment.

hey everyone, thanks for the input.
floatingbridge...you may be write. I freaked out and started reading about SSRI "apathy synddrome," and came to the conclusion that it must be the antidepressant. It could've been a number of things, I suppose. I don't see my doctor for a couple months (!), so I need to figure something out in the meantime.

I take Wellbutrin XL, 150mg. It doesn't cause apathy in me.

I'd have thought that the noradrenalin acting antidepressants (bupropion, reboxetine, nortriptyline) wouldnt cause apathy, might be worth asking your doctor for a trial of say Welbutrin 300mg/day and see how that goes for you?
