what i really want to know about antipsychotics!

Posted by poser938 on May 11, 2011, at 22:35:30

if you take for about a month or so, and decide its not you because of intolerable side effects, reduced libido, emotional numbness, thinigs like that. and if you;re the the type who medicine side effects stick with, is there a way to undo these side effects?

or is the reason for those permanent side effects from the receptors blocked off forever and raising dopamine levels with another med not going to help at all?

now im not taking it for schizophrenia, i guess anything that raises dopamine levels with that illness would make you worse.

any experieces in this situation people?????

If I didn't have to take an antipsychotic, I wouldn't. They're pretty hardcore.

My personal experience with antipsychotics has been pretty dissapointing. Abilify, for example, never did a thing to relieve my depression. From the many reports I've read, it seems antipsychotics have a minimal impact if any at all on major depression or bipolar disorder. In some cases it can make things worse. This is just based off personal opinion though.

I take nicotine lozenges with my APs. They raise dopamine and make me feel better!

I should also mention that I drink a lot of caffine with my sedating APs, which also raises dopamine. I feel much better with a steady supply of caffine. Then there is also the 3 drinks in the evening, that helps too, but no more or I don't do as well.
