Stimulants without Dopamine Rebound

Posted by Petrucci914 on January 20, 2011, at 20:38:19

Hello,

Does anybody know of a stimulant that doesn't tend to cause Dopamine Rebound and subsequent deepening of depression? I've tried Vyvanse, Concerta, Provigil, and Nuvigil. They would all work sometimes, sometimes didn't do anything, or sometimes would make me very fatigued and depressed. It'd be great if I could find an 'energy-booster' that didn't have the possible negative side-effects.

I wish I could suggest something.

Wellbutrin? (I know. Not the same.)

A post recently mentioned Intuitiv. (Misspelled.) Meant to be given in conjunction w/ add stimulant therapy. I don't know what it does, but try Google or look for the post on the board. It's current.

I think I googled it once and sounded like a lot less side effects might try now. Phillipa

I vote for wellbutrin as well. It's not a true stimilent, but it does have stimulating properties and some of the typical positive side effects of increased sex drive/decreased appetite but doesn't tend to make you crash and burn like stims do, especially in the XL version. Mine pooped out after a couple of years on me and after a recent break to try parnate, I'm returning to it slowly and it seems to be working again.

I would agree with Wellbutrin if you can tolerate the side effects. I've tried many of the stimulants and also think Provigil at smaller dosages 100mg am (per day or as needed) won't have much a rebound effect.

Wellbutrin used to work for me. It pooped out after about 3 years of success on it.

If wellbutrin has pooped out (Its done this to me too, on several re-trials) and you cant manage on stimulants then all youre really left with is other options like dopamine agonists and maybe high dose zoloft.
Do NRIs do anything for you? I got some good energy on desipramine and it didnt poop out on me.

I was on Strattera at one point and it made me very tired and did some very weird things to my ejaculatory system......no more info probably needed.

Ive heard of that with strattera too.
What about desipramine? I did really well on this one. Not so good on wellbutrin.
Its not got much AD response for most folks but it will help with fatigue and fibro symptoms.
Hopefully you find something that treats the depression itself.

Add memantine (Namenda) to your stimulant of choice; this will attenuate tolerance. I recommend Adderall/Vyvanse, Dexedrine, or Desoxyn.

You may wish to abstain from the stimulant for some days before starting the memantine, then begin taking the stimulant again after a week or two on memantine.

Also, use a magnesium supplement from a reputable vendor.
