good sleep med?

Posted by manduh on December 19, 2010, at 6:25:11

I currently have an RX for trazodone...the doc. has my dosage at 1 50mg pill. If I take the whole pill, after it starts to kick in and I'm lying in bed I'll suddenly realize I'm not breathing right. So I'll only take a half if I can. But even the half a dose makes me feel weird.
Are there any effective sleep medications that don't make you feel weird/feel like you're on the brink of hallucinating?

Well, I would certainly stay away from Ambien.

How about Restoril (temazepam) ?

I think I have tried every sleep med out there! Trazadone used to make me hallucinate. Not on the brink of hallucinating ... but actually hallucinating.

I would stay away from benzos because you can become dependant on them quickly and before you know it, you need the dose increased. There is one person on PB who says she has never had to change the amount of valium she has taken in 40 years, but that is an anomally.

Right now I use methoprazine. I don't know if it is available in the US or not. I have also used Thorazine in the past which helped a lot. It didn't knock me out, but made me relaxed and sleepy.

Some TCAs work really well. Surmontil and Amitriptaline. You only need really small doses.

If you are in the US some people say Lunesta works well, but have immovane here in Canada and it all it does to me is leave a bad taste in mouth and not bring on sleep. But you should try it.

I hope you find something soon. I know what it is like to suffer from insomnia.

Take care of yourself.

Maxie

thanks, guys...but let me ask you this..how do these meds (the ones that work for you) make you feel? How do you feel when they start to kick in? Do you have weird dreams? How do you feel in the morning, is it hard to wake up or do you feel groggy for awhile?

Hi,

I have been on Elavil for 37 years. This medicine is a very good sleep aid, but the side effects are bad.

Now I'm on Remeron with a low dose of Lyrica.

Best regards,
X-ray

Wellbutrin XL 150 mg
Remeron 45 mg
Lyrica 50 mg
Flupentixol 1 mg
