I tried parnate and it gives me headaches (sharp, not BP related) and doesnt help anxiety (makes it worse).
I have a prescription for Nardil and I am not sure whether to take it due to some of the side effects mainly loss of libido, weight gain, hypotension / weakness.
The question is has anyone had success with low dose nardil? eg.15-30mg just at night, in order to try and avoid the sexual dysfunction and weight gain + daytime tiredness etc. I respond a lot to parnate even low dose 20mg gave me a bit of a high for the first couple of weeks and increased my libido quite a lot.
Most people on here seem to take very high doses in the upper ranges or above the reccomended dosages. Things like ssri etc dont do much for me but parnate did work even at low dose.... shame about the weird headaches and anxiety :(
Anyone tried that? Or maybe know of any (obtainable) things that could augment nardil for sexual side effects etc?

Henshaw do you have any other information such as whether you took it yourself and what dose caused weight gain as well as what other meds you are on etc?

Those sex and tiredness issues go away within a few months. As for weight gain..if you do incur it, which is likely, you can still manage it. Just need to ignore food cravings... especially sweets and carbs.. and exercise

Hi,
I've never heard of 15 or 30mg of Nardil working for atypical depression or social anxiety. I've been on Nardil for most of the past 12 years. You have to take enough Nardil to get a high degree of MAO Inhibition. When I'm feeling good, I can be OK for months at 60mg. This tends to lower most of the Nardil side effects for me. During rough stretches I have gone to 90mg and sometimes higher to get an adequate response. I am currently augmenting with 1mg of clonazepam, down from 2mg. I want to slowly eliminate the benzo because of memory problems after chronic use.
Good luck in your wellness venture,
Jedi

Your experience is not fact - YMMV, as always. I have been on Nardil for over a year now and still have those side effects. And I would say that 90+ % of Nardil users cannot manage their weight. I have reduced my calorific intake greatly and exercise regularly and have still put on 30 lbs. From what I've read +30lbs is a relatively low increase in weight too. I spoke to my PDoc about the weight increase and he said that Nardil changes your metabolism. And not just slow it down either, it somehow changes it which makes weight gain very difficult to avoid.
As for low-dose Nardil, I have not tried it myself and so can't comment. Thinking about it though, if it did work at lower doses, surely that would have been discovered by now, considering how old Nardil is and how many PDoc's are willing to tinker with it?
