Who will win the prize and enjoy the enormous financial windfall of coming out with the first drug that is as effective as the SSRIs and SNRIs but has absolutely no sexual side-effects? Wish I had a crystal ball and could put every dollar of my 401k into that single company. I've been dealing with social anxiety and depression since I was 18 or 19. I'm now 33. The situation has essentially not changed since 1995.SSRIs / SNRIs do the job but I think it is tragic that perhaps the best sexual years of my life have been nearly ruined because nobody has developed a solution to this problem. If only this could garner the research dollars that AIDS did or cancer. I know that sounds horribly shallow and selfish but I don't care. Wish I was a brilliant chemist I would work day and night on this.

Have you heard about Vilazodone? Hopefully it will be approved by the FDA in February.
SSRI, with sexual side effects supposed to be the same as placebo.

Its already available. Its called: "placebo"

Some people respond very well to SSRIs with very little or no sexual side effects. I happen to be one of them.

Good for you Morgan...What r you on? I have noticed that since I cut back from 300 to 225 of Effexor, a big improvement. Paxil was the worst for sexual side effects for me.

That's great for you.
I've tried them all and they all cuase similar severities of sexual dysfunction. Paxil seems to be the worst. Of course, if I lower the dose to the point where it's almost ineffective for the reason I'm taking it in the first place then I notice improvement in the sex dept.
Depression and anxiety OR sex? Ain't life grand.

When I have gone off ssri's, sexual sensation has definitely improved, but not back to what it was before.
Post-ssri problem? Or is it due to continuing use of clonazepam? I will probably never know for sure.
Truly a cruel side effect of these meds.

No Agomelatine in the U.S.
For some reason I know almost nothing about Remeron. Something discouraged me about it when I first heard about it and I don't think I've read about it since, although I can't recall what it was that made me not want to try it.

>My statement was a bit misleading. In the past I was able to just take an antidepressant-first Prozac then Zoloft-and feel much better without sexual side effects or any other side effects. I think it was just my individual physiology, not Prozac or Zoloft. Though I have read that Zoloft is less likely to have sexual side effects than other SSRIs.
I have a lot going on nowadays, and have been through quite a bit over the last few years, which is why I think Prozac and Zoloft don't quite work the same way they used to. I still don't experience any sexual side effects, I just can't take them as monotherapy and feel well enough to get on with my life and do the things I want to do. If I had stayed on Zoloft 3 years ago, I may still be doing very well on it. Being bipolar and having experienced a few major mixed episodes along with some medication trials may have changed the way my brain responds to Zoloft. Plus, like I said, things in my life are different now, so I need more protection than the protection Zoloft offered me in the past. It's complicated.
All that said, I think I'm going back to Zoloft soon(I've been on it twice since getting off it in 2007 and having a few mixed episodes. I may add a little Nortriptyline this time. Currently, I take Serofin SJW, 500 mg Depakote, and 600 mg, lithium. I'm about 5 weeks into Serofin and want to give it another 3 or 4 weeks before considering going back to a pharmaceutical SSRI. Serofin is definitely helping, I'm just not sure if it's going to be enough for what my hurting brain and psyche need.

I think it has something to do with always being very very sexual with a very high libido and being bipolar. I remember when I first took Prozac(the first psych med I ever took), I was happy that I did not ejaculate as easily. Sometimes I would have to have sex and ejaculate 2 or 3 times before I cold comfortably last as long as I wanted to. So for those that have naturally high libidos and ejaculate too easily, the sexual side effects of SSRIs may not be a problem.

Intense cardiovascular workouts and intense weight training will positively impact hormones that may keep your libido healthy. I think exercise and weight training, plus a good diet, may be key in helping to prevent negative reactions to things drugs like SSRIs. Unfortunately, a lot of people do not get into a good proper routine of working out. I'm not saying that working out is enough to eliminate side effects of these powerful drugs, I'm just saying it may help.

I took lexapro, cymbalta and pristiq and had no sexual side effects. If anything, my libido increased significantly. But when I was depressed, I had no libido at all.

I agree with SADsucks. The sexual problems definitely get worse after many years of SSRI use. New Vilazodone is suppose to have nearly no sexual problems so lets hope its a good effective antidepressant.
