Afternoon Fatigue/Anxiety question

Posted by huxley on October 13, 2010, at 17:36:59

When I wake up I feel great. At about 12:00 I transition into a zombie like state, my mood drops bigtime, I get anxiety, My head gets really foggy and I get a slight case of derelisation.

What would be causing this? It never happened before I started on Zyprexa and Lactimal so I tend to look at one of these as the culprit but I am not sure.

I have tried changing my doses around, in the evening, in the morning and inthe middle of the day.

I have tried changing my breakfast up, avoid sugar etc.

I don't drink caffine.

Nothing seems to effect it. Every day at 12:00ish it just happens.

Does anyone else have similar symptoms? Any ideas on what could be causing it.

Non-med related, any chance it's something like negative self-talk maybe?

I'm the opposite, I wake up feeling terrible and my mood gets a bit better as the day progresses. I'm definitely not a morning person, never have been.

On second though - I do seem to recall experiencing something similar on Lamictal (which I took before bed at first), waking up feeling pretty good.. wound up splitting the dose.

I did think about it being non med related but there really is no change in my thinking or any event which would trigger it.

It feels like a physical change. I will try splitting my lactimal dose.

I'm not a morning person either but around lpm think meds start to wear off. Divided dose might be the ticket. Phillipa

Lamictal did the same thing to me. When I lowered the dosage nothing changed. I had to stop taking the med.

So lactimal is the culprit.
It feels like I am a little high of lactimal for the morning then spend the rest of the day and night 'coming down' off it.

This looks like adrenal issues. I bet if you took a 4 or 6 sample cortisol test in a 24 hour period you would see that your levels are not only out of range, but jive exactly with what you are feeling.

And there is the weird spectrum of metabolic syndrome from antipsychotics. That, in my opinion, ties directly to adrenals, thyroid, and sugar metabolism.

Also, look at what you eat. Nice job on taking out the sugar. But try the same thing, for a week or two each, with wheat, and then dairy. A food sensitivity will cause the exact symptoms you describe. It sounds adrenal to me, but food is possible too and is easy to rule in or rule out.

Zyprexa did similar things to me after longterm use. It turned out to be adrenal/cortisol issues, which took well over a year to heal on its own after stopping zyprexa and focusing on an adrenal friendly diet. Even still I am very susceptible and have to be careful.

My opinion is that many psych drugs actually cause these bizarre kinds of things that did not exist prior to the usage of those meds. The adrenals just can't keep up with the stress and strain asked of them. The meds put a lot of strain on them.

Ive been dealing with fatigue and my docs didnt even want to try the saliva cortisol tests. =(
You can see if your doc would give you provigil or amphetamine to help with the fatigue.

Thats interesting bleauberry. I will look into having my levels checked.
