Mirtazapine, no good for me. *trigger*

Don't you think, that upon starting an AD, if your symptoms get worse you should be taken off it or put in hospital until the danger period passes?

I'm extremely depressed yet again. It has been about 3 years since it's been this bad though. I don't react well to, or get much relief from SSRI/SNRI's/TCA's etc... so I was put on Mirtazapine.

Now I was suffering from pretty bad suicidal ideation before starting. As I got up to 30mg of Mirtazapine it got out of control. I then started considering self harm, as in cutting and smashing fingers and limbs in doors etc.. which I told my pdoc about and he just said you just have to push through this dark period.

Anyway I stopped it 2 days ago and I'm already feeling so much better than I was. I'm still not great and need treatment but I'm in a much better place now. I see my regular doc tomorrow, who I went to during this week and a half of hell. He told me to stop immediately but when he found out the this new pdoc wanted to see me twice in the 1st week he was impressed but I don't think he will be now.

I'm fine, I have someone with me 24/7 and emergency phone numbers. I've had bad side effects from AD's before but never anything like this. I'll fire him tomorrow I think. Mirtazapine has been a horrible ride for me, but I have seen it work wonders for a couple of friends over the years.

I'm very sensitive to serotonin antagonists and agonists which I told this guy.

I react best to meds that target DA and or NE. Does anyone have any suggestions? Would a mood stabiliser be the way to go as I suffer from back/neck pain as well. I'm on a low dose of Ritalin for concentration and depression and clonazepam as a mood stabiliser and muscle relaxant. I'm off all pain medication now, which I hated and I'm slowly getting sore again.

Sounds like you're having a horrible time. So sorry. Have you considered lyrica and maybe lamictal? Just thoughts. Sounds like remeron isn't the med for you. That's what you doc thought also or does he feel you should continue. And what pain meds were you on? Thinking withdrawal? Phillipa

Haven't tried Lyrica but have tried Lamictal which was fine to begin with then it made me very agitated and I'm a very placid person. I've been off the pain meds now for over a month, so I did have a couple of sweaty nights from the oxycodone but I was on a low dose, but that was it. Now that I'm coming out of this horrible fog, I'm really angry that this pdoc didn't do anything. I'm so glad I stopped taking it.

I've also considered Abilify but AP's have been really bad for me in the past. Pain wise though, which works better? Lyrica or Gabapentin

I have the same opinion about Remeron. Its horrible! If I take one tablet I will be in near comatose state for about 3 days. Slipping in and out of sleep.
