Saphris for bipolar depression

Posted by inanimate peanut on June 27, 2010, at 23:27:46

I know I asked back in Jan, but I thought more people might have tried it by now. Has anyone used Saphris for bipolar depression? Does it work? What are the side effects you're experienced?

Hi,

My doc has mentioned that med several times for my depression but I'm not familiar enough with it to feel comfortable taking it.

I tried Saphris for a few weeks, but it didn't help with my bipolar depression. It produced some sedation first thing in the morning. Other than that, I don't recall it having any major side effects. On paper, Saphris is almost like combining Remeron with Buspar.

How does it compare to the other antipsychotics? I'm already on Geodon. I have tried seroquel and zyprexa without effect. Abilify worked and then pooped out. Should I even bother?

I haven't read anything regarding the antidepressant potential of Saphris. My doctor figured it was worth a shot since nothing else works for me. Have you combined Wellbutrin with Lexapro or Effexor? You could keep the Geodon with this strategy. I know someone who is having success with using Wellbutrin 300mg, Lexapro 40mg, and Geodon 80mg. In fact, it was the addition of Geodon that unlocked the door, so its importance in her regime is confirmed.

Strangely enough, Geodon and Lexapro were my combo before I switched to Parnate. I believe you and I had the same rationale for switching (me to Parnate and you to Effexor) in that we were only at about 35% well and refused to live like that. It sounds like your gamble worked out the same as mine in that it didn't work out well. I was going to send you a PM to see how you were doing as I haven't been here for awhile, but you seem to have that turned off (which I completely understand). Since you're switching to Nardil soon, I take it your switch worked out about like mine did. You are brave enough to switch back whereas I feel I have nothing to switch back to. Anyway, I will stop rambling but my main point is that I'm so sorry that you're struggling and I hope that Nardil is the answer for you. You have been such a great help to me. You seem like a great guy. You deserve to feel well.

Think the lexapro could work again? Just curious. Phillipa

nope, i've never had one work yet. If the nortrip doesn't work, i'm going to give lithium another shot. it's been about 2 years now since i've been off it. However, i'm going to try a different forumlation-- so i was on lithium carbonate before and now i'm going to try lithium cirtrate or another formulation to make my body think it's a different drug. we'll see if that works. otherwise, no-- i've never had a drug work again.
