Does anyone take Metformin to help with weight gain? Have you noticed any weight loss?
I only take 300mg of Lithium, but have noticed some weight gain and my other doc suggested Metformin. Is it possible to gain weight on just 300mg of Lithium?
I'm wondering if it works to counter the weight gain or does it help reduce weight?
Any input?

Since it's used in diabetes I know that my neice and neighbor have lost weight with metformin. As to with lithium. That I don't know. Phillipa

I found it helped keep zyprexa weight off. My doctor took me off the metformin when I lost the diabetes, which I had gotten from geodon. I use to think the zyprexa gave me diabettes but I realized when I started the geodon, with in 1 month, I got diagnosed with diabettes, I was still taking some zyprexa, but when I went off the the geodon the diabettes slowly went away over a number of years. When I went off the metformin is when I belive the weight started to go back on, for a while then it just stoped going on. I read that perphenazine causes weight loss, and wonder if this is the reason I'm not gaining anymore.

I think that metformin can help lose some weight but does the best at helping you not gain more. Be careful, though, as metformin made my depression worse. I'm a weird case, as I've not heard that from anyone else, but just thought I would put that out there.
