Interactions: Lamictal, Prozac, Buspar?

Posted by Conundrum on June 14, 2010, at 11:07:25

Does anyone know if any bad interactions can occur with this combo? I know fluoxetine can decrease the levels of lamictal. Not sure of Buspar's effect on Lamictal or Prozac. The doses would be around 300mg lamictal, 2.5 mg prozac, 10 mg buspar.

If no one knows its not a big deal, I may not even try adding buspar and just come off prozac.

I see you upped your lamictal since you added your med regime at bottom. And no mention of prozac or buspar. Is this something your're thinking of trying? Phillipa

Oh thanks for letting me know. I think maybe I didn't hit the confirm button when I last updated my signature and I generally don't read my own posts so I didn't notice it.

Yeh I've been taking prozac for awhile. Its not really helping like prozac+buspar. My pdoc doesn't know I'm taking it though. She thinks I'm just on lamictal, but I really need something to help with motivation if I'm gonna go back to school since I have none right now. I guess low dose prozac alone doesn't help with motivation without buspar. Maybe I should just talk to her about adding something different. The main problem with that combo is it only helps minimally and I get dizzy, have headaches, and sexual dysfunction. I've actually been on prozac for more than 4 weeks and I think that lamictal or maybe a lack of buspar keeps it from being motivating.

I feel like there is no way I can get into a masters program and get the money I need without some help. Sounds like a cop out. Maybe I underestimate myself.

No problem but I wish more would comment on your combo. Phillipa

Actually I've decided not to try the combo. The benefits of prozac + buspar are minimal. I'd rate it a 3 out of 10. Hopefully lamictal will start to do something soon, or I will just try something else.

How long have you been at your lamictal dose? I hope it helps you feel better soon. Finding the right dose can be tricky. You mention memory and concentration problems, try to take as low a dose of lamictal to avoid that side effect. I didn't notice any problems myself at 200mgs. At 300mgs, I had some concentration issues but only for a few days after the increase.

If you're thinking about adding an SSRI, have you tried others besides prozac? At one time I was on a combo of 200mgs lamictal and 5mgs lexapro which worked very well for depression.

I've tried lexapro before at 5 mgs and 10 mgs. I didn't go higher since 10 made me feel out of it and even more numb as well as spacey. The reason I wanted to add prozac + buspar is that it increase the release of dopamine and norepinephrine, but the effect is very weak and there are drugs that can do the same thing more potently.

I hope I get to the theraputic window soon. My pdoc said at 300 she wants to do a blood test to see if its at the right level. I think it probably is but just isn't working for me. I don't have mood stability issues, hopefully this will convince my pdoc to change her mind about that.

So far I haven't noticed my memory getting worse than it already is.
