Nardil - Social Anxiety Question

Posted by mike0388 on March 21, 2010, at 3:48:51

Hello everyone :)

I have a question for anyone whose taken Nardil for social phobia.

I have tried many SSRI's with no luck for severe social phobia. I have no depression, but pretty severe social phobia where I can't even leave my house, it stinks.

My question is, has anyone experienced success with Nardil and does the help of the medication tend to wear off after a while?

Hi Mike,
I too suffer from bad social anxiety and Nardil has helped a great, great deal. That said, you may find it tricky getting a PDoc to prescribe Nardil when depression is not present?
Personally I cannot recommend Nardil highly enough.
Pete

hey there, nardil has helped many with SAD. It has even been called "the golden standard" for SAD. There are a few things to consider though. The side effects of anorgasmia and weight gain can be rough. Some people simply stop being anorgasmic after being on the med for over 8 months, and some have managed to manage their weight with good diet and exercising... not a bad habit anyways.
One more thing. Sometimes it "poops out" on people. The benefits may not seem as prevalent (there will be a pretty good spike at the very beginning when it kicks in... this will level off to a more consistent feeling) after a while. Some people manage this by going off the med for a week or two and then going back on. Somehow the med gets going again. Still others had to switch to something else like parnate to get a decent affect again.
Hope this helps. It's a very good option, but one that requires knowledge and thinking through.

Hello SeekingClarity

Welcome to Psycho-Babble! Thanks for participating. I wonder what causes some meds to poop out?

I think it's kind of individual, I have tried Nardil, but I didn't really experience any great improvement with social anxiety. On the other hand many people report that it has changed their life a lot and they can even walk up to strangers with help of Nardil.

But as I said it's individual.
