Constant Worrying - Where'd this come from?

Posted by Petrucci914 on March 30, 2010, at 22:03:21

Hey everyone,

My main symptoms for the past six years have been fatigue, oversleeping, overeating, and bouts of anhedonia. About a month ago I was on my second round of Vyvanse and it kept me up for a night, and then just made me fatigued and out of it. I then started Invega and thought I had a more positive outlook but my energy wasn't there, and it gave me horrible sexual dysfunction. I then started to worry a lot so I stopped it. I'm on nothing right now and I can't stop worrying and my emotions can be blunted at one point, and then I can get overly emotional about something the other moment.

I keep looking outside and seeing the yard work that needs to be done, keep seeing all the imperfections in my house, think about the poor economy, worry about what if something happened to my car, and constantly questioning how successful my life is......I'm only 25.

Where'd this all come from? Was this a side-effect of the Invega? Could Vyvanse have really tweaked something? I actually left my psychiatrist a message asking to be put on an SSRI.....at least I know those don't work, but don't take me down with them.

I would consider seeing a therapist with a Phd. in clinical psychology. This is something that has always been in you. It's a manifestation of your depression and low self-esteem-most likely rooted in whatever neglect/trauma/abuse/lack of love you may have suffered in your childhood.

Also tell your psychiatrist everything you are experiencing so he can hopefully properly diagnose you. You may need a six week trial on an SSRI or other antidepressant to help you get through this and get better.

If you have not taken an SSRI before, you may want to consider avoiding SSRI treatment. I would look into a good ST. John's Wort brand like New Chapter's SC27, Kira, or Perika. The only reason why I take an SSRI now is because I used 2 different ones for several years of my young life. At this point, I'm not sure it would do me much good to try to avoid them. Maybe I should. I think SSRIs can be very effective but I question whether they are the best treatment in the long run. Many suspect that SSRIs can cause irreversible changes.

First, I would try all natural treatments-SJW, Rhodiola, and Fish Oil being at the top of my list. Then, if these don't help(I would take fish oil regardless of whether it significantly impacts your mood) then consider tricyclics or Savella or low dose Lithium. Use SSRIs as a last resort if you can. JMHO and others' I'm sure.

What were you given the Invega for? Bipolar? Scizophrenia? Maybe it did trigger something. Who knows, anything is possible. I would try to see your doctor as soon as possible.

You're too young to be living like this. I'm sorry your dealing with this it must be awful. I've been through some bad times in my youth but thankfully I found a way out of it for a while and was able to enjoy being young. I hope you can do this too.

Age 24 first med valium and miltown for panic attacks. Allowed me to be normal raise three kids got off miltown myself about a year or two then lower doses of benzos just didn't need them. Was then teaching aerobics and running and going to nursing school. So I know it's possible. Phillipa

Hi,

I am 26 and have all of these symptoms as well. I worry about everything and I am contantly sleepy. An SSRI may help you depending on what you have but it might not be the best treatment for the sleepiness and over eating. If anything it most likely will cause you to be sleepy and gain weight. Do you have a neurologist that specializes in sleep medicine? Have them do a sleep study. I did this and found out that I was narcoleptic! My first thought was what the h*ll but turns out these symptoms can start in your late twenties.

Chances are youll be put on SSRI's but dont rule out a sleep study. I hope things work out for you!

I don't know anything about Invega, but looking at things logically, it seems like the the worry was probably caused by it since it's a new symptom for you that occurred only after you started on it. I think you should wait it out to see whether it diminishes on its own before trying something new. How long has it been? I would be hesitant to try an SSRI until you're sure it's a persistent symptom because that will just open a whole new can of worms, and may start you on a path you don't want (or need) to be on. Have you had your thyroid checked or looked at other possible causes for your symptoms?

I've had about 5 Sleep Studies thus far. The first two were years ago and were inconclusive. I went into REM on my naps, but not enough to be considered Narcolepsy. Years later I had more sleep studies and was diagnosed with Mild Sleep Apea. I've been on the CPAP for about 6 months and all it does it put marks on my face - no help in symptoms. I've also been on stimulants and anti-narcoleptic drugs but they were unpredictable and made me more tired a lot of times.

I've had my thyroid checked, numerous blood tests......testosterone, etc. I've had allergy tests, I've had my heart looked at.......almost everything except for a brain/full-body scan.

Bummer. If I were you, I would request a new sleep study and do not take any meds before you go.What narc meds have you taken? I was on a combo of Nuvigil and Phentermine and nope, no help and yes, I was tired at times. I just saw my neurologist and got adderol and Imipramine or tofranil for the cataplexy. I have my fingers crossed.

Do you feel like the "sleepy" feelings associated with possible Narcolepsy feel like a drugged feeling? I slur my words and my muscles get really weak. This supposedly is called Cataplexy therefore, I was given the Imipramine. Get a second opinion. Also when you did your sleep study, did you stay the next day and do a multiple sleep latency test? The average individual takes 90 minutes to go into REM. The naps they have you take are only 20 to 30 minutes. If you are going into REM within that time, there has to be something going on. If you live in AZ near east Mesa I can recommend a great doctor. Let me know and I wil babble mail you his info. I hope you figure out things soon.

I've had about 5 sleep studies already, and seen two different sleep doctors over the period of a couple years. I've also seen a neurologist. I don't really have symptoms of cataplexy. During my MSLT I did go into REM rather early on a few naps but it wasn't short enough, or frequent enough to get a clear diagnosis of narcolepsy.

I've been on Provigil, Nuvigil, Vyvanse, and Concerta. They all make me feel good for periods of time and then I go down to being more tired and depressed. They're unpredictable.
