Sides effects go away?

Posted by SheilaC on November 25, 2009, at 8:14:51

My doc said to stop the Cymbalta (since it made me manic) and go back to the Pristiq.

My only problem with Pristiq is the awful gas and stomach noises (embarassing) and gastro pain.

Has anyone been on Pristiq long enough to know if these side effects go away?

Passing monster gas is just not my thing. But Pristiq works for me. I'm willing to stick with it if it really does go away.

Help this gassy broad!

I am clueless as to what to do to remedy the G.I. side effects. Sorry.

If no other drugs work, perhaps you can return to Cymbalta and take an antimanic drug to stabilize your mood and prevent mania.

Scott, what would be a good anti-manic drug to put with Cymbalta?

As is always said, everyone's psychobiology is different, and it is hard to predict which drugs will have the desired effect.

If you are bipolar II, you can try Depakote or Zyprexa, or perhaps Trileptal. If Zyprexa produces unacceptable weight gain, but demonstrates itself to be effective, you can then switch to another antipsychotic such as Abilify. Lamictal would be a nice drug for depression, but it really is not a very good anti-manic drug.

If you are bipolar I, lithium is usually indicated. It does not work for everyone, though. Sometimes another mood-stabilizer is needed, especially when rapid-cyclicity is present. Sometimes, combining lithium and Lamictal produces a good balance of antidepressant and antimanic effects.
