Ok - out of total desperation, I starting cutting my 50mg of Pristiq in half to 25mg. I know they say not to do that because it isn't scored and shouldn't be split. But 50mg of Pristiq is too much for me. I get terrible side effects with 50mg (bloating, gas, stomach pain).
So far, I've been taking 25mg of Pristiq and I don't have those side effects.
Will they come out with a 25mg version?
Or, is there an Effexor equivalent I can take to 25mg of Pristiq?
I can't handle a lot of serotonin, so the Pristiq seems better for me.
Also, I find that Pristiq works really great with my nighttime dose of Seroquel.
Any suggestions?

It's a tablet is there an enteric coating? If not why can't you split it with a pill splitter I spit my synthroid and other meds that aren't scored? As long as no enteric coating can be split. Phillipa

Your doctor would be the best one to ask about the equivalence of 25 mg in Effexor. Or a pharmacist.

I agree w/ Maxime. And be sure to make clear you desire not to have the serotonine hit to hard.

There is only a 50mg and 100mg version out. Is there less serotonin inhibition at a lower dosage? I thought since pristiq still targets sertonin more that lowering the dosage would just reduce the NE part

Hi FB, I've been doing great. I like the 25mg of Pristiq. I just make sure and take it with food. But I don't have the awful gastro issues (noises, pain, gas, bloating, etc.) with 25mg. So, I guess I will stick with it.
Plus, my nightly dose of seroquel really works well with pristiq.

The experts on issues like splitting pills are pharmacists. If you want an "official" answer, call your pharmacy and ask to speak to a pharmacist.
Pristiq is time released, like Effexor XR. Some time-release pills are safe to split, and some will dump the whole dose at once if you split them. I don't know which type Pristiq is. The easiest way to find out would be to call a pharmacist.
Even if the whole dose dumped at once, I suspect that it would not be dangerous, but I don't know.
My pdoc has been trying to push Pristiq on me, but I will only take it as a last resort, because it's expensive and I don't have insurance. I'm not paying for my meds now, but I have had to in the past. I feel much better taking meds I can afford if necessary.
