Nuvigil Longer Lasting than Provigi?

Posted by mrm1036 on November 13, 2009, at 4:21:24

Can anyone say if Nuvigil is supposed to be longer lasting than Provigil? I suffer from major depression and my primary symptoms are lack of energy and fatigue. My psychiatrist is considering putting me on Nuvigil.

My current medications are:

1. Parnate: 80mg
2 Lamictal: 2 mg
3 Abilify: 5 mg
4 Lunesta: 3 mg

Thanks again.

Nuvigil (armodafinil) has a half-life of 15 hours, which is approximately the same as Provigil (modafinil). To get technical, with Provigil, the r-enantiomer from which Nuvigil is derived has a somewhat longer half life than the s-enantiomer.

How much Lamictal are you taking? You listed your dosage as being 2 mg.

What advantages are there for taking Nuvigil over Provigil?

I see it's not generic out of the two isomers in providgil one was isolated and nuvidgil will not become generic till 2023 so a new make on providgil. says longer acting. Phillipa

Nuvigil is basically a way of extending the patent on Provigil in my opinion.

Scott:

My mistake. I'm actually on 200 mg of Lamictal. I don't know if there are ANY advantages of Nuvigil compared to Provigil. My psychiatrist suggested Nuvigil although I've read about Provigil.

I'm a bit concerned regarding tolerance.

Thanks.

It seems to me then that Nuvigil is the same as Provigil except for the one isomer that's been taken out. I think it's a way for the drug company that makes it to make more money.
