Is There A Parnate Sweetspot?

Posted by bulldog2 on October 18, 2009, at 18:23:34

I wonder has anyone ever read that parnate has a sweetspot such as nortriptyline has? Does it work best at a certain blood level?
It seems as if everyone titrates rapidly upwards to achieve remission. Perhaps people are missing a certain blood level that would be optimum.

Hmmm.....
you know I read somewhere that it should be dosed by weight.
Maybe it was in the psychobabble tips section. Not sure.

Hi Delna,

wasn't that for Nardil?

BTW: Thanks for your mail! Sorry that I didn't answer it yet, I just came home, it's 00:30am and I had some drinks. Not able to do that now :/
Will answer tomorrow :)
I hope you had a day without too much hypotension and sedation!!

Have a good night!

Yes, you are right- that is for nardil
But according to the psychobabble tips, there is a way to test how much Parnate you need...but I wonder if labs perform these tests

The commonest reason people do not respond to tranylcypromine (Parnate) is an inadequate dose. When using an MAOI I follow platelet MAO levels and keep increasing the dose is sufficient to reduce those levels almost to zero. This often takes > 60 mg/day of tranylcypromine.

Sunbath,
About answering my mail- please, please don't feel pressured. I know you have school (and a life :) ) so reply whenever you feel like. I take no offense at all.
Just hope you are doing well. TC

It seems from your answers there really is not a sweet spot as there is in nortriptyline. Just need a high enough dose to reduce mao levels to almost zero. However might need a blood test to determine that. Thanks for your answers.

This is very common with the MAOI's!!!

I remember a doctor, D Burns, used to reccomend like 10mg Parnate for a therapeutic dose.....way too low in my experience!!!!!

I was told that the working dose gives hypotension on standing and further hypotension when measured standing immediately after the first test
