luvox for generalized anxiety

Posted by tballs on September 28, 2009, at 21:37:10

So far I've tried about 26 medications in total for generalized anxiety;ssri's,snri's,benzodepaines, antipsychotics, anticonvolsants, namenda(anti alzheimers drug) I've been on pristiq for a few weeks which looks like is not going to work.I was wondering if anyone has had success with luvox for gad as that is what my doctor is trying next. and if so how luvox differed from other ssri's they've taken.

I'm still on luvox. Should probably raise dose but don't don't know why. But second SSRI I took and when took it kept waiting for side effects and absolutely none. I do take benzos with it but at one point was at 250mg and it was the doc that took me off it as a celexa trial he wanted me on and that was horrible. Never could take the high dose again but felt good. Seriously no sides effects and I sat there waiting for them. Now xanax and valium contraindicated as increses effects of them ativan is the correct benzo. Phillipa

I was on Luvox for a year or so. I could not tolerate more than 50mg, I just got incredibly depressed. This is a typical reaction for me to SSRI's.
In retrospect it did very little for me, poss due to insufficient dose.
Good luck.
Pete

Have you tried any of the following?

Nardil (phenelzine)
Sinequan (doxepin)
Phenergan (promethazine)

It might not be fruitful to take one drug at a time (monotherapy) when it might take a combination of drugs to successfully treat your condition.

Although Phenergan is not often used for anxiety anymore, I have seen it work wonders for someone who was resistant to treatment with other antipsychotics. He had no complaints of cognitive dulling or apathy.

Of course, Nardil works extremely well for some people.

Another drug that has fallen out of favor for treating anxiety since the advent of SSRIs is the tricyclic doxepin. It was one of the most prescribed antidepressants for people when anxiety was present.
