Parnate costs?Generic? How can you afford it?

Posted by Sunbath on September 8, 2009, at 14:08:53

Hi,

As Parnate isn't available in my country, my insurance wouldn't pay for it and I would have to import it from other countries inside the EU.
I just checked the price and couldn't believe my eyes.. ~140USD 90 tablets, 10mg.
Does anyone know if/where a generic is available? It doesn't seem to be the case in the UK nor in Germany...
Just thinking.. IF I was going to try Parnate and IF I'd need a bigger dose such as 80mg/day, I'd easily pay more than 250USD/month...

Now that's strange since it's such an old med..

What do you think?Does your insurance cover it? If not how much does it cost in your country?

Where did you check the price? Was it an online pharmacy where you don't need a prescription? Because Parnate is actually not that expensive, so don't pay those prices. I can't remember what 80mg used to cost me, but it wasn't near that amount. I hope you figure things out.

Hi Sunbath:

I got #450 10mg generic Parnate through my insurance. It was $540.00 I was shocked!! Parnate has been around so long. How dare those pharmaceutical companies charge that much! I guess they don't even want to make it any more because they don't sell enough to "make it worth their time". They always come up with some reason to charge a bunch of money. Maybe you can find one of those overseas places. I have found one that has generic Provigil for $1.5o each compared with $15.00 per 200mg pill here. Now I have to figure out how to evaluate the company selling them.
Good luck.
Gayle

Thank you 2 for your replies, much appreciated!

Will try to find a cheaper source then, but it seems unlikely to me that I'll find a much cheaper one (being limited to countries inside the EU) when even the generic one Gayle is taking is so expensive.. unbelieveable really!

I just got a prescription of my pdoc and ordered 45 tabs of 10mg parnate for about 80USD from Germany via my local pharmacy, but I'll look for cheaper sources in other countries the next time (IF there will be a next time lol)

@Gayle: Great to hear that this 'comeback' of depressive symptoms was only very temporary and that you're still doing great on Parnate! :)

@Maxime: Good luck to you with your upcoming Parnate trial!!

XXX .. they're listing parnate for 19 British Pounds which is 3 times cheaper than in Germany (where it's manufactured by a different company).. but are they trustworthy? I guess it's fishy since they sell them without prescription :(

If anyone else knows a uk pharmacy that sells parnate, please tell me, it would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Without answering questions that aren't allowed to be discussed there, I can tell you that if you look up their domain they have a fake address claiming to be in Hong Kong.

Not going to give tips but I would hesitate a guess that there are few and far between pharmacies online that are not scams or mailing and phone list gatherers that will hound you for time to come...

...usually playing a shell game where the final pharmacy ends with one person who has mass registered domains and maintains a pyramid scheme in some country with lax laws.

thanks a lot yxibow!
I wouldn't have ordered there, but wanted to get my local pharamacy to order from the uk IF it's much cheaper there (you are not allowed to order online any prescription meds in my country in general).. now I know I cannot point them to this web address as an example :D

sorry, so it's not allowed to discuss any stores where you could buy prescription meds?

Thank you!

You're not allowed here either technically, but that doesn't stop (story below).

In the US, you are allowed 90 days supply from overseas, but there's a lot of but there... it really means if you get ill abroad and there aren't good substitutions to finish your medication here, you can bring a personal supply.

This has also led supposedly to a 2006 US Customs cease and desist of freezing of non-scheduled / non-narcotic substances from Canada to the US, but lately all legitimate (and the ones are usually in Manitoba for some reason) prescription-required pharmacies in Canada have had some ominous warning statement. So the status for that remains questionable but it does fall under the 90 day rule.

Its one of the more contentious issues, Canadian (US prescription, legit) pharmacies and the US.

> sorry, so it's not allowed to discuss any stores where you could buy prescription meds?

No, that's the rules here, no posting links or explicit references to buying prescription medications.

I'll say without details that I learned the hard way, the above comments were about such a pharmacy, and though the medication looked legit

(I checked the third party pharmacy and the 'doctor' that they prescribed with the board in the state that it actually came from, both legit places but who knows how many local and international calls this was routed)

it went through unknown people calling unknown other people, and then getting mass spam telling me about "refilling" from other domains (also connected to a huge mass domain name buy) and even phone calls until I yelled the crap out of them. I do hope that stops finally.

But what I don't really like is my information in the hands of unknown people.

So while there may be other web sites that have researched and discuss "good places" and "shady places" (a lot), and I'm sure you can Google them, its not something for here, at least according to the rules. Also, don't always believe what you would hear on those sites either.

Basically, prudence is best.

Sunbath, we just aren't allowed to give out names of places to get meds online. We can talk about pharmacies though.

I ordered some meds from what was supposed to be a Canadian online pharmacy (i live in Canada). The stuff took SIX MONTHS to arrive because it got held up at customs. I guess it wasn't a canadian pharmacy afterall. You really have to be careful.

Take care.

Hi Racer, I believe she has the prescription from her doctor and is just trying to find a place to submit the prescription and get the meds. I don't think she is trying to do it without a prescription. That's my take anyway. Hope you are doing well!

Hey Maxime, thanks for defending me :)

Sorry Deputy that I posted the link..
Maxime is right though, I even have the med already, ordered as I said via my local pharmacy which ordered it from Germany, where it's SUPER expensive.
I asked them if they could look for it in the UK or elsewhere where it's manufactured by a different company (for the next time), but they refused to do so ("we don't have a supplier there...").
So I was looking for it on the net myself to get an idea of a price. If the price is low enough in the UK I'll try to get a different local pharmacy to order it from there as I'm not allowed to order prescription meds via the internet myself EVEN if I have a prescription.. it's just not allowed in my country to ship prescription meds to the patient. The patient must get it personally from a trained pharmacist!

But of course this is not an excuse for posting that. Sorry, won't do the same mistake a 2nd time!

If someone reads this from inside the EU and knows what's the price of brand or generic parnate, please tell me!

Thank you!

BTW: counting days to parnate, yipeee (hope so at least)

To yxibow and Maxime: wow that are quite some stories!! thanks for sharing! I'll beware ordering from dubious shops :)

I still have to find the info how much parnate manufactured by GlaxoSmithCline in the uk is though.. this price given by that fraudulent online shop can't be taken serious I guess..
