Switching drugs

Posted by Meltingpot on August 27, 2009, at 9:36:28

Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had ever had an antidepressant poop out on them and then gone onto another drug with a different mode of action for a year or so and then switch back to the original drug and respond to it again?

I think MAOIs are more apt to work again after a drug holiday than are other types of antidepressants. I know this doesn't really answer your question.

Hi Pippa,

Yes I keep thinking of the Seroxat. I thought perhaps I could go on an antidepressant with a different mode of action (like emsam or selegeline) stick it out for a year and then try the Seroxat again. The problem is time is not standing still waiting for me to respond to an AD. The people I love are not going to be here forever and I get so sick of trying. When I look back at all of my postings over the years it makes me feel more depressed than ever, I just seem to be fighting the same old, same old battle.

I keep thinking of pushing for ECT. I don't think it will work but if I don't try a course then I will always be wondering "what if". I suppose nobody can advise me on that.

Thanks for the info Scott (n.m.)

I'd advise against the ECT but Emsam was the one I wanted to try and worked with Robert David for a long time. Then pdoc said to stimulating for me so poof!!!! Love Phillipa
