Ok - I've been taking Pristiq for a week and I really like how calm it has made me (I don't want to scream at my husband all the time). I'm a lot less irritable, which is nice.
My sleep is still disturbed, but hopefully that will even out.
But the number one problem I am having is severe constipation! I hate to stop taking this med, because it is one of the only ones that is working for me.
But I just can't take it.
Does anyone know if this side effect will go away in time?

>I don't ever see the reason to give up a med because of constipation. I take percocet and nortriptyline which is very constipating.
Almost every pharmacy carries this version of a stool softener plus stimulant. Each tablet contains docusate sodium 50 mg (stool softener) and Sennosides 8.6 mg (laxative). I take 6 pills each night for a normal bowel movement each morning.
I have always found that when this laxative was no longer needed my bowel movements have resumed normal activity.

Hi Sheila,
Swiss Criss is a great herbal laxative--just don't take too much (at first).
I am so glad the pristiq is working! There's got to be an answer to the laxative part.

Thanks everyone. My doc told me to increase my fiber, drink lots of water, take magnisium oxide, fruits, veggies, etc.
I am going to try all these things as I don't really want to get dependent on a laxative.

Sounds like a good plan Sheila--a healthy diet. Herbal laxatives do work well in a pinch, and are pretty mild.
Best!
