Side Effects/Pristiq

Posted by SheilaC on August 8, 2009, at 7:41:10

So far, Pristiq has been ok. My mood is better and I am more calm. But I have been really constipated and am afraid of gaining weight on Pristiq.

I am not hungry and pretty much have to force myself to eat, but I am not losing weight.

Also, in the middle of the night I will wake up out of a dead sleep and feel wide awake. After a while I will fall back asleep, but its weird. Don't know why that happens.

I'm going to stick with Pristiq because it doesn't hurt my bladder (no urgency, pain or bladder spasms).

I gained 30 lbs on Celexa, so I do not want a repeat of that on Pristiq!

Sheila just the fact that no bladder pain must be wonderful for you. That's great. Don't worry about weight somewhere I read the pristiq seems to be weight neutral. As for constipation. Try the supplement magnesium citrate. I take that nightly. Love Phillipa

I didn't gain weight on pristiq.... The mid night awakenings might be residual anxiety/depression? I had that for a little while as I normalized from a deep depression. I used sonata (generic) to work with that. It stopped after a few weeks for me.

best regards,

Thanks Phillipa! I know, my bladder doesn't hurt at all, I think the Pristiq actually helps it feel better. I'll try the magnesium citrate.

So, FB, hopefully that weird effect will go away as my depression and anxiety ease. I think after another week or so the Pristiq will help even more, hopefully! Its only been 6 days today.

FB - when is a good time of day to take Pristiq? I've taken it at dinner and also at bedtime. When I take it at bedtime I'm a little goofy in the morning. I may have have to take it a few hours before bed I guess.

Yea, I feel a bit hung-over in the a.m. now that I'm on 100. I didn't notice it on 50.... sounds like trying it at dinner time might be worthwhile. I'm glad it's working for you!

Wyeth Pharm...I'd love to drop several 1000# bombs on their HQ.

I tried Effexor many years ago and had severe itching from 8-10 every night.

I'm losing track of what I've taken when but started on Pristiq say 6 weeks ago. It triggered mania in short order and then I had a mixed states episode on it.

You are manic and weeping at the same time. I was on 50 mg for almost 3 weeks.

I'm still getting brain zaps from that garbage.
My doctor said brain zaps wouldn't be a problem.

I hope you do well though. I know what you're going thru. And, it could be the perfect drug for you.

Philly...

FB - the only problem I seem to be having with Pristiq is constipation. It's really difficult. Did you experience that? I wonder if it will get better with time or will I just have to take laxitives forever! I've tried magnisium, fiber, prunes. It's the only bad side effect so far. Ugh!

My constipation wasn't that severe--lots of fluids (water) and vegetables was enough. But I was also on other things at the time (wellbutrin, abilify--and I suspect the wellbutrin was the cause of said constipation.) I also think that that may subside as your body become accustom to the med? I rarely experience it now.

pristiq is pretty potent--hope it keeps working for you and these se issues work themselves out.

Phil,

You have brain zaps after only three weeks?! Sigh. I'm sorry, that really s*cks. I remember them after effexor--and after I miss a dose of said offender.

I was at work one day and not sure if I missed 1 or 2 doses of Paxil.

I had to leave work...fast. Had to take that Paxil.
