Since the Geodon is making me sleepy during the day, I am going to take it with dinner and I'm sure I'll sleep like a baby.
I'm wondering if I should drop my seroquel at night. Since I use seroquel for sleep, maybe the Geodon can take it's place. If I do well on the 20mg at with dinner, I will be able to go up to 40mg.
I always hear, the least amount of drugs you can get by on to manage your symptoms, the better.
Here's my current lineup:
evening: 50mg - 100mg Seroquel and .5mg klonopin
Usually 50mg of seroquel and .5mg of klonopin knock me out.I just wonder if taking seroquel, klonopin and geodon are overkill (with the anti-psyh meds).
I also wonder if at the lower dose geodon makes people sleepy and at higher doses that goes away.

Bipolar II. I have trouble sleeping and have anxiety during the day. If untreated, I experience irritability and mood changes (sometimes rage). I do not do well on any of the SSRIs or SNRIs. Serotonin drugs tend to make me manic (even tiny doses).
The Seroquel definitely helps me sleep, but leaves me flat during the day. I need a boost of something to help with my depression and mood.
Since I am hard to treat, my doc decided to try Gedodon on me.
So far I like the even-ness it has brought to my moods, but I'm just super sleepy.

I think it is reasonable to discontinue the Seroquel if all you are using it for is sleep. You need to experiment with these drugs. They affect people so differently. At higher dosages, Seroquel can act as an antidepressant and is alerting rather than sedating. However, since you are going with Geodon, you might as well give it a fair chance and not complicated it with the Seroquel. You can always add back the Seroquel at any time, so it is not as if you are making an irreversible decision.

Not irreversible, but changing APs isn't something to do lightly -- there are benefits and risks.For me, Geodon (and Abilify) had too much EPS (mainly akathisia). They are generally stronger at D2 than Seroquel/Zyprexa.
Zyprexa.... well... let's not go there... its very rare what occurred.
But then I seem to be a mystery for a lot of medications, so don't take this as a discount of what Scott has mentioned.
I would agree, those dosages are barely above the threshold for psychotropic gain for Seroquel.-- Jay
