fatigue + nausea (x posted to alt)

Posted by floatingbridge on July 9, 2009, at 21:21:51

(this is cross-posted to alt, but I'm desperate!)

I'm experiencing extreme fatigue with all-day nausea. The nausea started about 3 months into a trial of Dexedrine. I am no longer on dexedrine as of two weeks ago (I suspected that to be the cause), but nausea remains and seems on the rise.

No fever
No elevated blood count
No actual vomiting
oh, not pregnant, but like morning sickness
Have a window of energy in a.m. which drops off a cliff around 11:00

Current meds:
pristiq 50 (six months about)
klonopin (.5-1.0mg daily)
provigil (0-200 per day)
levoxyl (thyroid 100)

nausea presents with or without taking provigil

I'm seeing an acupuncturist early next week for the first time in about a year and a half.

Do I go to an MD (just to have them look at me like I'm a strange specimen)?

& pdoc /T out of town until next friday

Can someone be so tired that they can't even eat anymore? And how is this different from 'depression'? One of my old anxiety symptoms was / is stomachaches--not nausea. Now i just feel sick.

This feels endless.

I was having that and I thought it was my wellbutrin making me nauseaous but I finally went to see an GI and had a scope of my upper GI tract and he found mild gastrisis and the treatment of it and my collitis (Pepto-Bismol of all things has worked. He put me on the Pepto-Bismol for one month only. And prevaicid and it has helped trememdously. Both are temporary until the inflammation in my gut calms down. Also he recommended taking a probotic.

maybe you could give one of these a try.

Thank you rsk, maybe it could be this simple--is a GI a general internist? I now what the GI tract is. Can my regular MD of internal med do this--I'll find out tomorrow.

thanks!

then I can deal with the fatigue!

Gi is a gastroentrologist, I can't spell it, but they specialize in gut issues. Your internist might can do it too. MIne order tests she knew he would order so to get it out of the way prior to going, it helped. He did an endoscopy of my upper gi tract and small intestines.

good luck

Pristiq does not make me nauseous but soloft did. I think it can be a side effect of anything serotenergic. PeptoBismol sounds like a good innocuous thing to try. Provigil does not make me nauseous either. Probiotics are always a good idea...
What a drag. I'm so sorry to hear things are so tough.

Hi fb:
A couple of years ago I was getting dizzy and nauseated every day. Of course I thought I had a brain tumor. It turned out it was antihistamines like allegra, claritin, zyrtec etc. and reflux meds like pepcid, prevacid, probiotics, prilosec, etc. I can't take the same one over 3 days in a row. As long as I alternate them I'm ok. Is that weird or what. Cured my "brain tumor"! I think my liver is shot!
I sure hope you feel better!

fb:
It took me a year to figure it all out, trial and more trial. Then I noticed right on all the pill bottles it says "Can cause dizziness" which I had NEVER noticed. Dumb Who thinks of those meds as causing any side effects! Especially not Bad dizziness! and nausea!
I've never had it again as long as I remember not to take any of them over 3 days in a row!
You might check it out if you take any of those "benign" drugs! Good luck! Gayle

Cannabis might help to cope with the nausea as a temporary aid.

Dima
Well, that's an idea.
I could lie on the couch all day munching and listening to music!
I surely wouldn't get my work done then! but I guess I wouldn't care!

Please...that's just pure anti-marijuana propaganda. The thousands of medical marijuana patients are not the stereotypical stoners you make them out to be.
