I have taken gabapentin for years. At one time I was taking 2700mgs a day. I am now taking 300mgs twice a day, when I take provigil to take the edge off especially the down half of the high from the provigil. I think it makes me feel a little looser. It seems to have a mild anti-anxiety effect. But it is not a good mood stabilizer- not what I use it for but that's what my pdoc tells me. It might calm you and ease some of the tension that sounds like to goes along with the anger. It's worth a try, not hard to get on or off.
Good luck with it if you decide to give it a try.
In the mood stabilizers the only one that did much for me was depakote which gave me chronic diarreah (sp?), didn't elevate my mood at all but did completely kill my anxiety. It also wiped me out, made me feel completely flat. But a little might cool you out. I don't remember if you have tried it or not.
Hope this helps. Keep on plugging.

Zana

Yep its generic, dont be talked into lyrcia, just a more potent version.Get the gabentin 800 mg tablets if you can, read in numerous plaves for severe mood disorder up to 4 grams have actualy been used........things to know

You first dose youll prob get a high, dont worry you wont get it again.

Second tablets are great, you can easly break them to use them as needed or sparingly, also they work well in high doses for severe mood and sleep and also last play nice with many meds,i recomend asking for the tablets, the gebpentin tablets which are generic are dirt cheap w insurance.

I am starting slow- took 100 mg at 11:30 today and 200 mg at 6:30. Plan is to take up to 300 mg 2 times a day until Monday when I see pdoc! Will keep you posted. SO far, hard to tell..... Not sure it worked at such a small dose and I am not tired so I will try 300 in the AM tomorrow..... Thanks for support!

Good luck.

The most difficult part of dealing with drug treatment of depression is the waiting. It can take weeks from the time you begin treatment to the point when you see discernible results. Neurontin is an interesting choice. Your doctor might be acting under the premise that you are bipolar and currently in a mixed-state episode.

Scott,
I am pretty sure that bipolar is what he (pdoc) is thinking now... I talked to him on the phone last night and he gave me an "ah ha" moment when I described how I was feeling... (REVVED up mentally with intense irritability with no motivation to do anything due to my anger and hatred towards life right now).... so he decided to try neurontin as I used it 9 years ago to help with sleep.... However, now I am taking it during the day at a dose that used to allow me to sleep.... so I guess things can change- which may be informative of what is going on with me.... I have had other pdocs say it was bipolar so I think that may be the reason why I have felt no relief for so long- hopefully the mood stabilizers will work this time around... The last time I had any releif (I would say 25%) was on lamictal- but eventually it led to side effects including irritability. I wonder now if that was just my illness getting worse- hmmm... I will keep you posted! Thanks again for the posts!
