This new pdoc is a bit of a genius

Posted by Amelia_in_StPaul on June 2, 2009, at 1:09:36

Hi everyone, long time no post. Well, I've been doing my usual depression-anxiety two-step dance. Some days really, truly crappy, other days, right as rain.

Anyway, I just wanted to quickly report on something my new pdoc told me. This one actually listens (*gasp*) to what I want and need (now if I could get better at articulating it). Eventually, we are going to try Lamictal, but to stabilize me, she is continuing the fluoxetine for awhile. As for fatigue, she told me that fluoxetine can have two "cycles": one that is sedating, the other that is activating. She suggested--and I'm not sure why no one else has before--that I take the fluoxetine late in the day so that I sleep during the fatiguing parts. After experimenting with the time of day to take it, I now take it at 8:00 pm. And guess what? I am not nearly as tired/sleepy as I was before. With Trazodone, I sleep through the night despite the fluoxetine, and I wake up with less grogginess than before. I cannot believe what a difference that made. What idiots was I seeing before that didn't think to suggest this little thing? *eyeroll*

At least I have the info now. If anyone is taking an SSRI and experiencing a lot of sleepiness, ask your pdoc about this.

Amelia

If I take my zoloft at night, I'm not sleeping, thats all there is to that. Luvox on the other hand, I could take it day or night and it turned me into a walking zombie, induced chronic fatigue, and I was getting 8 hours sleep a night?

I think whatever works best for one person may be the opposite for another but hey, if it works, run with it!!!
Glad you're feeling better

Rick

Amelia,

I take my AD at night, too--however, I figured it out over a long period. Glad you like your pdoc--sounds like a creative solutions sort of doc!

Luvox at night. With the benzos. And tierder each day even though cut down on benzos and luvox. Seems these meds work for some and not others. Glad you found a good solution for you. Phillipa
