Zoloft + Wellbutrin

Posted by annelyse on May 18, 2009, at 9:16:58

First of all I would like to start by saying how much I love this website. All of the responses that I get are very informative and helpful.

I have been on Zoloft (100mg)for a few months now and started WellbutrinXR about a month ago to counter-act the negative side effects of zoloft (low energy, no sex drive, increased appetite). It seems to have helped in every aspect except the energy. Just this past week I raised my dose to 300mg from 150 and have noticed that it may even be harder for me to focus than it was before I was on it. Yesterday I would suddenly feel light headed and like I might faint from time to time. Granted I also just went back on birth control about a month ago and it was approaching "my time of the month" so... I'm not sure which one was affecting me this way.

My question is, does it take a while to feel the energy + focus effect of wellbutrin? I am very satisfied with the other ways it has counter-acted the zoloft and I don't want to stop taking it. I also have been experiencing ringing in the ears which is bearable but kind of weird...

Just to be sure I'd give the doc a call let him know what your feeling. Maybe going up to fast? Don't know how the birth control pills interact . Phillipa

You should try the generic version, it has less fainting effect.

Wellbutrin has always made me both spacey and irritable. Never gave me any energy. Provigil gives me energy and focus but since it has such a short half life, about 7 hours, and is a stimulant it can have a nasty down side. I take it with klonipin and gabapentin which keeps me from getting anxious or irritable.

I think tinnitus and light-headedness can be Wellbutrin side effects. The Zoloft + Wellbutrin combo was great for me for several months.

However, birth control has also in the past made me dizzy and given me terrible headaches. Are you on the generic Ortho-Tri-whatever it is?

By itself, Wellbutrin kicked in for me within three days. It totally took away my appetite and made me so energetic I'm sure I was hypomanic. Give it a little more time. You're on a good deal of it, but the Zoloft will blunt its effects and may make it take longer to work.
