Oral Selegiline + Emsam Patch?

Posted by HopeSprings on May 14, 2009, at 20:29:09

Is there a correlation between the two? Has anyone taken them both? It's just that I can't get less than 30 of the patches and it will be over $200 for the 30 as I didn't meet my deductible yet. I'm wonder if it might be prudent to try a few of the oral Selegiline pills to see if it works for me and what the side effects are. If they are two different things though that might not work.

Any thoughts on doing this? Anyone do it?

I will say this, ive had both LIQUID deprenyl and tablets.

The liquid deprenyl i found to be very potent, similar to parnate, and went very well almost a synergy with klonpin.

I never considered it as a option due to the fact of the EXTREME COST FACTOR of liquid deptenyl and the very small amount you ger.

Now the tablets, blah i might have taken sugar pills,no effect at all.

In google groups this is all a major topic of how the liquid deprenyl worked and the tablets dident.

Im not technical,i have no idea why it is that way,but no one can convince me that the pill should work as the liq because i have been there and done it and my body doesent lie.

Now for emsam,im extremly curious about it.In fact as i waited for it to emerge it was my hope it would be a savior as far as my med treatment went.

Then when it came out the user responses were less then postive to say mildly.

I still ask whenever im in a store with a pharmacy i go to the desk and ask if they ever dispensed a med called emsam.

With over at least 12 stores not single one was familair with it.

Well Segeline via Ensam patch is delivered transdermally to directly enter the bloodstream in order to bypass the digestive system...something to do with the metaboliziation of tyramine in the digestive system/intestines that the MAOI inhibits. I think, but not sure, it was created to avoid the potential hypertension side effect from certain tyramine foods; an accumulation of tyramine can cause the hypertension.

I don't know what other benefits there are to transdermal delivery, but whoever came up with that idea was thinking out of the box, and I hope to see more of that type of thinking when it comes to drugs.

It also makes me wonder why they don't invent patches for drugs that are metabolized by the liver rather than the digestive system; drugs that might damage the liver. Maybe it doesn't work with other drugs, I have no clue.

Garnet you're correct about EMSAM as long as only six mg when nine or l2 then same precautions as nardil or parnate. But there are quite a few patches out, nicotine, hormones, nitroglycerine. Humm I have to google patches meds and see if any hits. Phillipa
