One week - Off Nardil, clonazepam, Seroquel

Posted by jedi on May 6, 2009, at 2:49:55

Hey guys,
Well I've been off of Nardil, clonazepam and Seroquel for over a week now. So far, so good.

My MD did give me a couple of months worth of Deplin samples. Maybe this little kick will be all I need to stay off the meds. I'm crossing my fingers. I figure, if I can make it a couple of months on just Deplin, the l-methylfolate must be doing some good.

I'm also hiking in the foothills 1.5 hours daily.

Current supplements:
Deplin: 7.5mg
EPA 1800mg
DHA 1200mg
B6 200mg
B12 500mcg
Multi-Vitamin mineral cap

Any suggestions?
Jedi

Wow. You really went for it all didn't you? I sincerely hope your current supplement regime will keep you well.

Two:

1. After my experience with Deplin, I have come to suspect that the amount of L-methylfolate they put in it is too much. I had a great effect that lasted for a few days during the first week. Then, a more robust and stable antidepressant response followed about a month later. However, after three months, I began to gradually lose it. At the same time, though, I developed very vivid dreams with violent content. I stopped taking it at this point. However, I probably should have tried cutting the dosage in half. Metabolically, L-methylfolate participates in chemical processes that yield SAMe. I recall vaguely that when there is too much L-methylfolate available, this enzymatic reaction is interfered with.

2. NAC (N-Acetyl-Cysteine). This is supposed to be a great anti-oxidant with properties that might promote neurite regrowth and allow for the repair of damaged neurons. There have been several scientific investigations studying the clinical effect in bipolar depression. NAC seems to promote an increase in glutathione production. This is also an important anti-oxidant. Even if NAC doesn't cause an improvement in depression, it probably helps prevent it from getting worse. Maybe for you, it will help you maintain your remission.

Thanks for the info Scott. After years of REM deprivation from Nardil, I could probably deal with some vivid dreams. No nightmares though. I'm actually surprised I haven't had a major dream rebound yet. In the past when I've stopped Nardil, I would really get some vivid dreams.

I'll do some research on the N-Acetyl-Cysteine.
Thanks,
Jedi
