Do you have sinus problems? Post-nasal drip can cause horrible coughing problems.

Myco I'm concerned about this description of lungs filling up when you lay down? And not breating? Do you mean your nose prevents breathing? And the lungs filling up is mucus that you cough up? What antibiotic are you on? Can you explain please? love Phillipa

I mean that there is lots of liquid in them already and when i lay down it becomes hard to breath...gurgling sound from my left lung. my nose and sinuses are clear just lungs are liquid filled to some degree. when i am sitting or standing its fine but laying down the liquid disperses and it seems harder to breath...plus cough reflex comes heavily when i lay down. amoxicilin they gave me...said not to worry, doesnt require hospitalization...i can go home and rest and drink tons of water and it will clear up in a matter of days most likely. puffer can be given later they said.

Myco I don't know I realize where you live but seriously I feel a call to the hospital assuming you can't your doc would be in order for the puffer at least. I just don't like the gurrling reminds me of things I'd prefer not to discuss here. What is your age? Young or old. That's all I need to know. Meanwhile let me look up some stuff. Any temp and is energy returning at all? Chug a lug of water and orange juice. Love Phillipa

I will go back tommorrow or tuesday (to the clinic at the hospital (different one than my usual) - my gp is useless for help in almost all cases). Puffer is/was offered once alot of that crap is cleared out...believe me ive cleared alot..its nasty. the gurgling is just that crap close to my wind pipe as it moves around when i lay down. other than that im in less pain, fever is down, body aches and pains going away slowly, tension headaches undercontrol (had mom pick up more temaz from a diff dr i used in the past). temp is normal with occassional fever spike but they are rare now. worst is over. im 32...you know that missy :oP ... on my way to old age lol. water? oh ya, many litres....or as you yanks say quarts or gallons. i dunno where it goes cuz i dont urinate it much...fever most likely.

I believe I had that Exact same thing when I was on Nardil.. especially when I would lay down. I wasn't sick at all.. it would last for months then stop, then weeks, then stop etc.. I forgot all about that. Doc said I would be fine too. I think it was MAOI fliud retention, but in the lungs seems a little weird. Now on Parnate it is gone. And I dont need a Diuretic to keep my ankels from swelling, and eyes from drooping.
My lungs only ever did that on Nardil and I wasnt sick.. could be unrelated but maybe not.

Take some NAC. It helps reduce thickness of mucus and so you can get it out easier. I'm actually not sure how it is taken, if you can just take it orally.

d/r is quite right that N-acetyl cysteine is used to loosen mucus in pneumonia and other conditions. 250-500 mg per dose, up to three times a day.

I don't mean to sound unkind, but if lying down causes you to have problems breathing comfortably, don't lie down. Sleep with your head elevated. Sleep in a big old armchair.

You should be fine in a couple of days.

gurgling--not wheezing?

if it's gurgling you get some mucinex DM some robitussin DM
you do prop up your pillows and sleep at a slant

drink water
then drink more water

get a hot water bottle
warm up your bed while you take a nice bath
then open the window and enjoy some cool air from your warm cocoon

be well

please DO NOT take robotussin, dextromethorphan is serotonergic (releaser, i think?) and can cause serotonin syndrome easily with an MAOI.
