Good question but thinking not all gain weight like I've never gained on SSRI's. Phillipa

might be something to do with liver gluconeogenesis, i don't know if a particularly low/high carb diet might ameliorate this. catecholamine effect of parnate is stronger too

I know people who gain from Parnate. I guess it depends on the person.

Ive read that phenelzine effects the distribution and breakdown of adipose (fat) tissue in the body. So everyone will gain at least a little but it can be controlled.

No, I was just wondering the difference. Haven't taken either, but am fixin to start Nardil. I think I can manage the weight thing o.k. Have only ever had issues with weight on one med and that was paxil.

I remember reading where people were gaining weight on zoloft, where I lost weight on it. I think people often make a mistake when taking certain meds. Maybe they are just eating more because they feel better on the med, but don't realize it.

Myco keeps warning me about the CARB MONSTER CRAVINGS on Nardil, but I'm not real big on carbs now, unless its from veggies, so I think I'm safe on that one. Never have been big on sweets, except chocolate. HEE HEE!

Sorry to be a bearer or bad news..I gained huge weight on Nardil in a short period of time..I just finished a retrying Zoloft and now I'm retrying Paxil and the carb-cravings are nothing compared to Nardil..having said that..it was a really great med and kicked my depressions butt..however it had one side effect that worried both me and pdoc, so had to discontinue..otherwise I'd still be on it but would look like the Pillsbury Doughgirl..
