Who is taking 10-30mg of Abilify?

Posted by SLS on February 19, 2009, at 22:45:21

I have bipolar depression. I feel best when I take 20mg of Abilify. In fact, that is the dosage I started out at. My doctor said that it really didn't matter at what dosage you started out at, that the startup side effects would be the same. I experienced some mild vague restlessness during the first week, but that was it.

What are you using Abilify for?
What dosage did you start at?
What were your startup side effects, and for how long did they last?
How much are you taking now?
How well is Abilify working for you?

Other comments?

Yo SLS

I would never take Abilify again, i took 10mg, and felt, sometimes medication does not go with personal nuerons.

Angry, bad mood, say sarcastic comments to everything. Wasnt good.

Seroquel is ok.

Do find that your initial behavioral changes have disappeared?

Are you now taking Seroquel also?

Have you tried going up to 20-30mg to see if these things disappear? Many people do find that the higher dosages have anti-anxiety effects. At 10mg, if you were suffering true akathisia, you'd be climbing the walls. Most of the doctors that I know of would bring someone with a difficult case of schizophrenia up to 30mg.

I even tried 30mg myself to see if I could benefit any more from it when treating bipolar depression. I had no anxiety at all at the higher dosage. Anyway, through experimentation, I found that 20mg was much better for me than 10mg. When I was in really bad shape, it prevented me from getting anxious and suicidal.

I am VERY surprised that your doctors have not tried to push you to take more Abilify. What is the worst thing that could happen? If the anxiety is worse after a week, you can just return to the lower dosage. You've tried so many things in the past, I can't believe you haven't tried this.

If you have any questions about Abilify, I'll try to answer them. Abilify is less unlikely to produce TD because it is a partial agonist rather than a full antagonist at dopamine receptors.

Good luck.

> What are you using Abilify for? I have unipolar depression. I use it to augment lexapro and lithium

> What dosage did you start at? I don't remember, but I worked my way up to 30 mg

> How much are you taking now? 15 mg--I was doing better, so we decreased my dose

About a month, it didnt work, felt my thinking was "lowered" to a threshhold, and also emotions. Feels like like having Lithium, it keeps nuerons "controlled".

Did you know Mineral Water has very low Lithium content. Still i dont like mineral water, taste's like carbonated water that's it. - That's wierd.
