would Zyprexa block the effects of Provigil???????

Posted by qbsbrown on February 15, 2009, at 16:17:09

I was just wondering, doesn't the Provigil (which works great for my depression) increase dopamine, while Zyprexa would be the antagonist?

The two meds did not counteract each other for me. If anything, they seemed to go together well and created a synergistic benefit.

Provigil minimized any daytime tiredness of Zyprexa, while Zyprexa minimized any night-time insomnia of Provigil. Zyprexa helped to restore daytime appetite where Provigil had killed it, and Provigil minimized the increased appetite of Zyprexa. So basically they both muted out each other's side effects. But the mood enhancement effect in terms of anxiety and depression was synergistically more than either med alone. That was just my own personal experience though.

As an unrelated comment, to talk theory such as pro-dopamine plus anti-dopamine is not accurate or helpful. There are too many variables that make the discussion multitudes more complicated than that. Genetics, disease, environmental insults, the varying brain regions a particular drug is most active, and probably a boatload of things yet unknown what these drugs are actually doing at a molecular level.

Thanks for the input. If I recall years back, I had great results with celexa, zyprexa, and provigil (unfotunately my insurance ran out).

As we speak I'm on Trileptal, which has been good and bad. It has brought out my personality (which might actually be hypomania that I'm enjoying), given me the ability to actually focus and watch a movie, and able to read a book.

But it's causing quite bad rapid cycling. Hypomanic in the morning during work, depression when I get home, then normalcy at about sundown.

So I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do. Perhaps go back to that lexapro/provigil/zyprexa combo.

I like zyprexa, but hate the weight gain (50lbs for me), and it makes my thoughts quite introverted (w/o the lexapro and provigil)

I appreciate the help.

Brian

Hello Blauberry,

I know a lot of time passed since this posting - but I tried to pm you - unfortunately it was unavailable on your side.

I have lots of daytime sleepiness with Zyprexa and sleep really a lot. This is a big complaint on my side.

I read your post on using Zyprexa and Modafinil together. Although some time passed after your post, I would like to ask you if you are still using this combination, for how long; If you quitted, why did you stop the combination and how long did you use until quitting? And - what is your ilness/diagnosis? I am schizoprenic-bipolar and I will try this combo. Did you have any complaints - side effects with the combination?

I would really be grateful if you do reply my question.
