Wellbutrin

Posted by X-ray on January 19, 2009, at 9:32:42

Hi,

I'm thinking about Wellbutrin, which is said to have mood-lifting properties.
My spirits are low, so I could do with a drug to cheer me up.

I take Remeron for sleep, and the questions is whether this drug and Wellbutrin mix well.

From Medscape.com:
Wellbutrin XL Oral and Remeron Oral may interact based on the potential interaction between BUPROPION and ANTIDEPRESSANTS.

What are my options for sleep if I want to try Wellbutrin?

Best regards,
X-ray

Hi:
'What are my options for sleep if I want to try Wellbutrin?'
-------------------------
In my case, Zyprexa 5 mg. and Trazodone, both of which is minimum dosage goes well with Wellbutrin. I have Bipolar II, but much better after 10-11 years with a good med. combo.

One thing you need to remember is that Wellbutrin causes 'insomnia' if you're taking before the bed, ... even two or three hours before. Then, you need to practice taking Wellbutrin divided two or three times a day and yourlast dosage is to be during evening, ... preferrably 4 hours before going to bed. Otherwise, you're not able to sleep that makes you tired and irritable the next day.

WB offers 'boosting energy' because of 'stimulant effect' while other med. like Remeron giving you calming effect that brings you a good nite-sleep.

To me, it sound a good combo., but talk to your pdoc., if you're not feel any benefit even one month later on them.

Don't understand why wellbutrin appeared to make me manic causing pdoc to hospitalize me where they withdrew wellbutrin gave me 15mg of remeron and many benzos even seroquel for one night they dc'd it . If wellbutrin is used for bipolar how can it cause I guess hypomania? This one has always left me wondering. Phillipa

Does Remeron have any mood lifting properties?

Hello Theo,

Remeron is an antidepressant which certainly has mood lifting properties.

I'm doing okay on Remeron, Lyrica and Fluanxol, but Wellbutrin might boost my energy.

Next visit to my doc I'm going to ask for Trazodone.

So I would also like to know whether Trazodone and Wellbutrin mix well.

Best regards,
X-ray

I'm actually taking Wellbutrin XL with Trazodone. There is not a problem as far as side effects but Trazodone has a short half life so when you take it at night, you feel mild anxiety mid afternoon. If you try and take it in the morning you'll be to tired. I don't think Trazodone has very good antidepressant qualities because of the short half life. I was on 300mg Wellbutrin XL and couldn't notice much of anything with the Trazodone, so dropped to 150mg Wellbutrin XL and felt more tiredness from the Trazodone. The more you raise one or the other, you just cancel one out. This is why I was curious about Remeron taken with Wellbutrin XL, because I've heard it has a longer half life.

Wellbutrin and Trazodone when taken together show an increased risk of seizure when taken together, while Wellbutrin and Remeron taken together don't.

Hi Theo,

I appreciate your help.

Remeron and Wellbutrin might be a good combo, but the question is sleep.
I shall have to add something to Remeron to get a good night's sleep.

How about a low dosage of Seroquel?

45 mg Remeron + 50 mg Seroquel + 150 mg Wellbutrin XL

I would like to try Trazodone for sleep soon.

Here's a possible combo:
Trazodone 75 mg + Wellbutrin XL 150 mg + Buspar 40 mg

Best regards,
X-ray

P.S. I'm on Remeron and Buspar now.
Out: Lyrica and Fluanxol.

Can you explain how Remeron makes you feel? Does it feel different than other meds that effect seretonin like SSRI's?

When you say above the question is sleep, I thought Remeron was used for sleep? Is it activating for you?

I'm certainly not trying to point out all the negatives of Trazodone, but it also gives my some eye splitting headaches, and I read that migraines are common with it.

Hi,

Remeron makes me feel good.
This is a benign drug that has few side effects.

I would not touch an SSRI-drug with a barge pole.
Remeron is superior to all of these drugs.

I don't know if Remeron is activating, but it may cause drowsiness in the morning.

I really think that you should give Remeron a shot.

Best of Luck,
X-ray

Forgot to ask, how much did you start with and how much do you currently take?

Hi Theo,

My first night with Remeron was on 15 mg.
I increased the dose to 30 mg for the next week.
Then I upped the dosage to 45 mg a day.

Remeron is a good sleep-aid, but my brain have been used to Elavil.
I was on that "dirty drug" for 37 years.
Now I have been looking at other options.

A lot of people complain about Trazodone, but maybe this potent drug will do my brain good.

Best regards,
X-ray

P.S. I have quit Lyrica and Fluanxol from today.

Hello again,

Remeron is a modern drug that has few side effects.
So I guess that this medicine is "pretty clean".

I have had no "memory issues" while on Remeron.

If you sleep well on Remeron, you won't feel sluggish the next day.

Best regards,
X-ray
