Parnate, Brand versus Generic?

Posted by bleauberry on November 24, 2008, at 17:35:03

I'm wondering, for those who have taken Parnate, did you take GlaxoSmithKline or did you take a generic?

If you were on a brand that was not GSK, did it work for you?

If you were on GSK, did it work for you?

It's going to be a long 2 months before I can see my booked-up doctor, so I might just order online, but that will mean generic. GoldPharma is the likely producer if I do that.

While we have noticed differences between generics and namebrand meds, I am wonderin if Parnate is one where people have noticed a difference.

Thanks.

Someone here *did* notice a difference.

I think he mentioned the UK version (certainly not Goldshield, which is what I have) which came in a bottle and had a different coating on the pills.

Yes, someone once said they noticed a difference between GSK and online generics. I took Goldshield generic years ago and it worked very well. My impression of it was that it was a powerful stimulant. I've been surprised by how many people get fatigue on Parnate (I think most are taking GSK). I'm sure the person who had tried both said Goldshield was more stimulating. It's anyone's guess what GoldPharma's version might be like.

My doctor just agreed to another trial, so we'll see if it has the same effect this time. Just waiting for the script.

Yes, that's the only version on the market here.

I am currently taking a generic tranylcypromine. It helps me just as much as Parnate does, and seems to be dosage equivalent. I take 80mg.

Currently, I am taking:

tranylcypromine 80mg
nortriptyline 150mg
lamotrigine 200mg
aripiprazole 20mg

I feel good.

I'm currently on 40mg generic, don't have anything to compare to but seem to be responding as I expected for where I am. Not remission YET, but stimulating during day, crash late afternoon, insomnia getting better.
