curious if there's some sort of consensus on this.

does it being monotherapy vs part of a cocktail make a huge difference?

I would prefer Escitalpram (Lexapro) as first choice. Fast onset of action, good side effect profile, low interaction potential. If it doesn't work at I would suggest Venlafaxine (Effexor XR) as 2nd drug, boosting dosage if necessary to the maximum and giving it enough time to work (6-8 weeks). Pregabalin (Lyrica) can be added at a dose of 600mg. If this doesn't work there are other highly effective, but not first line treatments (MAOIS like Nardil or Parnate, Benzos like Klonopin).

Best ssri/snri for social anxiety will vary significantly depending on who answers the question. Ten different doctors, ten different answers.

My top choices in order of preference would be: Milnacipran, lexapro, cymbalta, paxil.

From what I've read SSRIs are not effective for social anxiety especially if it's mutated into Avoidant Personality Disorder. YMMV. The gold standard for treatment is an MAOI - usually Nardil, and Klonopin plus other augmentors if needed.

I found that Cipralex helped my social phobia - Seroxat also helped a lot. Both of these drugs made a noticeable difference (Seroxat was the more effective of the two). Unfortunately they also both pooped out! Out of the two, Cipralex definitely had the better side effect profile.

I've been looking at trying Clomipramine - however that's a tricyclic antidepressant and so you may not want to go there..!
