hello,
has anyone had any luck with other anti-convulsants to help ocd symptoms? Many thanks,

I'm not sure about AEDs, but low dose Seroquel, e.g. may help bad OCD. Have you exhausted the doselimit of your SSRI (or sometimes gone a bit beyond it) -- I assume you've been through the panoply of them?

But I mean it depends on the situation -- its not always a drug augmentation for OCD, as it is not a curable condition (I have it), its something you have for life basically, but if you do things like CBT or other similar therapies, you may learn the tools you need for another flareup.

Unfortunately short of a caudatomy (which is almost never performed in the US and could cause brain damage) there isn't a way to silence things, but there are ways of knowing how to calm the anxiety to a point with some cases that you don't need much medication help.

-- best wishes

Assuming you've tried luvox? As I think mine is less with the low dose I'm on. Phillipa

thank you Phillipa!
I haven't tried luvox but I am nervous to switch from zoloft as believe it or not zoloft has kept my weight down! :) I wonder if I can be on them together, maybe adding it to my zoloft.

Clomipramine...?

Would Clomipramine be of any use? I know it's supposed to be good for obsessions and phobias, but I've never tried it (yet) so can't really comment.

Any advice on Clomipramine anyone??

Well I'm doing a switchover from Luvox to Anafranil, but its primarily for depression though it could address the OC parts of my complex disorder.

Its fairly weight neutral from what I've been told of the TCAs, mainly it carries the usual problems, blurry vision possibly and sweating from the anticholinergic stand, some other random things, usual nausea possibilities at dose adjustments, but then SSRIs have that too.

At one point it was a "gold standard" at the beginning of SSRIs coming out, whether that is true any more, I can't really say.

Mogger I never gained weight from luvox even when the dose was 250. But I doubt you can combine with zoloft serotonin syndrome unless maybe very low dose of each but my pdoc wouldn't let me do that with paxil and luvox but before that was on 12.5 of luvox and 2.5mg of paxil. And Benzos of course. But I've heard anafranil has lots of side effects I'd google that one. See what you find. Phillipa

What meds and dosages are you currently taking?
Any improvement in OCD symptoms with these meds?

I was on Clomipramine 150mg for 9 years.. 1989 -1997. My diagnosis is depression/anxiety with OCB.
My p/doc advises OCB is a milder form of OCD.... Behavior vs Disorder.
Clonazepam 0.5 /tid was also prescribed.

Anyway, my wife often ask's why I don't go back on the same med when she first met me? That would be clomipramine.
Looking back, I was better off overall...more energy, much more social, positive thoughts. Mood was stable for the most part. Yes, I had my ups and downs, but when I think back to some of the situations I faced, well, I'm not sure I could cope with them today?
My sleep was good, now I rely on remeron for that. Zoloft is probably a bit better for my anxiety, with fewer side effects.
I did sweat more, very slight tremor and my heart rate was slightly elevated... 85/min compared to 75/min on Zoloft.
I've recently added lamictal to the zoloft and remeron. If I do not see a marked improvement in the next month or so, I will be going back on clomipramine. I also smoked back then so that may have been part of the increased heart rate?
When I started the SSRI roller-coaster, my GP was hesitent and questioned why my p/doc would consider changing my long standing A/D??? To this day, I remember him saying "don't do it, you may not have the same results if you stop".
So, 10 years and umpteen A/D trials later, I would rate clomipramine as the most successful antidepressant I've been on. I believe it took about 3 months before I began feeling the full therapeutic effect, and a lessening of the startup side effects.
New and improved is not always better, too bad the medical profession is so hell bent on pushing the latest drugs and the TCA's seem to get pushed aside due to their "horrible" side effects.
My 2 cents, for what it's worth.

All the best, Rick
