ultra rapid clcying with tmj and pelvic clenching

Posted by Jennilee on August 5, 2008, at 18:35:43

I'm ultra rapid cycling bipolar, and have been having tmj/jaw clenching at night for the past 2 yrs.Happened when my bipolar worsens. Also pelvic floor problems (probably started with my IC disease)with anal clenching and tightening.Headaches too from bipolar/anger. The zyprexa has helped some with the tmj. I know this sounds weird, but does anyone on this board have this happening? My dr. can't help me.

Hi Jennilee,
I'd like to talk to you about this, just not on the boards. Can you turn on your babblemail so we could use that to talk? Otherwise, feel free to email me. I've got an address at yahoo that uses my screen name here (gardenergirl) followed by 88 at yahoo dot com. Forgive the avoidance of bots.

Did you have these problems before you started taking any medication?

I was always on meds the same time I had this. I think it's from the bipolar affecting my nerves. It's affecting my life.It seemed to have gotten worse as my rapid cycling bipolar has gotten worse. The zyprexa definitely has helped the tmj some. Thank you for your replies

I have fibromyalgia as well as BP. I have always ground my teeth. I had some interrupted sleep last nigh due to an increase in Parnate but I woke literally hearing myself grinding my teeth. I was laying on my back and my buttocks were clenched so tight they were not even touching the bed. If this has been going on (the clenching) every night, no wonder I'm a mess in the morning..and it's gotten so bad, it's hard to do projects around the house as I'm so stiff and movement is very painful...

My fibro has worsened to the point I was blaming my bed for my severe back pain and stiffening upon arising, so now I'm wondering if this has been going on for some time but I was sleeping through it. Another thing I couldn't understand was my dog has slept at the foot of my bed for 9 years and won't get on the bed at night no matter how much I coax her. I thought it was due to her hip dysplacia, however, around 4-5 a.m. I feel her jump on the bed and nestle in, so now I'm wondering if I'm kicking in my sleep and she senses when it's safe to get on the bed.

This is so strange. I never put two and two together, the worsening of the fibro, the dog, all correspond with starting Parnate.

I wasn't sure whether to start a new post or to just add on to this one..but it seems we have a bit of the same problem.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated

Yes, I think the jaw and rear end clenching are related and aggravated or caused by the bipolar. A surgeon I saw said the anal area has more nerve endings than any other place on the body. The mouth and jaw are full of nerves also. So I think our nerves are affected by this illness

I've ground my teeth since I was a child, so I know it's not related to meds. The buttock clenching is the mystery...but it sure explains why my morning pain and stiffness has quadrupled and also why I'm fatigued...so I have to think it's med related..keeping my fibro under some sort of control is hard at the best of times..I don't know what to think about it..
