just started Amantadine, what to expect?

Posted by dcruik518 on July 23, 2008, at 0:54:20

My long-awaited schipmannt of Amantadine arrived today. They're 100mg capsules and took 2. So far I like it. I feel a good focused buzz but without nervousness and it seems to help me speak more fluently. I also hope it might help me lose a little weight. But who knows this is just one day.

Based on past posts, it seems that others experiences with the drug have been underwhelming.
Is anyone still taking it? HAs anyone found it works better in combination with certain other meds? Or are there certain meds you'd recommend avoiding? Any help, much appreciated.

I haven't tried it yet but it's on my list. Are you finding that it's giving you more motivation?

Yes,

This is only my third day on it, but I like it and do find it motivating without being overstimulating. I've also found it seems to make me somehow more in touch with my spiritual creative self--very strange.

I have been taking amantadine for about two months, 100mg 2x/d, and found it somewhat helpful in counteracting the sexual side effects of prozac, 10mg 1x/d. But it has not augmented the antidepressant effect of prozac. If anything, it might be making me a little less organized and active, but I'm not really sure about that.

It's an older med that has multiple uses: flu, parkinson's, eps side effects from anti-psychotics, ADHD and weight loss. It's not a very strong medication and for some it's pretty darn good, for others, not too exciting. Side effects are mild and minimal. Glad it's working for u!
