Did my old pdoc 'fired' me

Posted by Sky Brite Line on May 10, 2008, at 10:44:54

I've heard this term before that doctors will do this.

I had great relationship with my old pdoc, but being confidencial, i cant say what happened but he said preferred me to see another pdoc.

Can a doctor do this? psychiatrist?

Yes -- doctors can and even should refer certain patients on to others if they don't feel they can help. Sometimes, things just aren't a good fit, on one side or the other. In those cases, in the case where a doctor does not feel he/she can offer the patient effective help, sending that patient on to another doctor is the most ethical thing to do.

I'm sorry if your former doctor's decision came at you from out of the blue, it's frightening when something that unexpected happens. And it's frightening to have to adjust to a new doctor, too.

I hope that the new doctor is a better fit, and better able to treat what ails you.

Good luck.

I've had it happen before think they must make sure you have another and see you and provide meds until you do at least that is what one of mine told me. Good luck. Phillipa

mental health professionals always expect their patients to explain why they are leaving
seems t should work both ways

One guy fired me cause i was to complicated. He wanted patients where he could snooze with his feet up on the desk. No he actually told me I was to complicated. Sometimes I think p-docs get some of the laziest my incompetent docs.

Alot of stuff happened with this pdoc, for years he treated me successfully with many medications, but it turned into a disaster, not because of something crusuel, just one thing. I'll tell it later in time.........its a tragedy it happened.
