Do you use both modafinil methylphenidate?

Posted by Molybdenum on May 3, 2008, at 8:15:48

Hi,

I know a few people here use both modafinil (Provigil, etc) & methylphenidate (Ritalin, etc) whereas I am planning to swap from MP to modafinil.

If you use both, I'd like to know why please? Does one counter the side effects of the other? Do you feel they're complimentary in the quest "to be alert enough" of the day? Or why exactly?

Also, if you're using both, how much of each & when do you take the MP?

Thanks :)

Initially, I found the addition of modafinil to improve certain aspects of rational thought and executive function, but I'm not certain about that any more. Also, I've found modafinil to be insufficient to wake me up - only to keep me awake - and therefore, methylphenidate is still required.

I think you will need to perform your own tests to determine whether the combination provides any added benefit.

The methylphenidate gives me energy and the modafinil gives me the focus and concentration to use it effectively.

Hi timidly,

I read with interest your comment "The methylphenidate gives me energy and the modafinil gives me the focus and concentration to use it effectively."

I have been on MP for years for tiredness from effectively untreatable sleep apnoea & not happy about the "speedy" feeling nor the hours of "coming down" in the afternoon. So I was thrilled to find out I could now buy generic modafinil cheaply .

Now that I have it though, I'm really a bit disappointed. Unfortunately, I think I agree with your statement.

It's been years since I filled a name brand modafinil script. I just decided to believe it was better than MP but too expensive for me. The truth now hurts. Modafinil on its own just doesn't cut it for me, even if I take 200mg on waking & the same again at midday.

So now I'm taking 200-400mg modafinil & 30-40mg MP from dawn to 3pm.

I've no idea what this post is about. I think it should get redirected to "having trouble maintaining delusions"....

Crap...... :(
