Anybody on this board participating in any trials?

Hi,

There are a lot of people who post on this board who live in the United States. I know that the United States is a big place but I never see many people on this board participating in any of the trials that are going on. For instance there are trials underway for Deep Brain Stimulation, Ketamine and other NMDA antagonists and yet nobody on this board seems to be interested.

Does anyone on this board intend participating in the trials or do you know of anybody who is?

I'm REAL interested, but the trials are not easy to get into. I've tried a few years back to get into a VNS trial, and then again recently for DBS and was rejected both times for various reasons. The protocols are strict.

I'm not in the US, but anyway, I'm not desperate enough for DBS (or ECT). While I am interested in NMDA-antagonists, I prefer to try them on my own - memantine will be a nice start.

I am deeply interested, and actually just attempted to get into one of several NIMH studies in D.C. (i'm in baltimore). And i actually specifically looked into one or two on ketamine and depression and another with a different NMDA antagonist (riluzole maybe?), but i didn't meet the requirements. They and a few other of the studies required either no concurrent psychotropic medication (which would disqualify me) or no comorbid psychiatric conditions, which also disqualified me. Dammit. Yeah i was disappointed. AH! I'm ticked off again just thinking about it. Okay MAN sorry i'm gonna stop rambling now.
Anyway bottom line, yeah as the others said these studies often do have a number of tight restrictions.
