Hi Nardilites,
I will need to take a drug test for a new job I just got and I'm scared about anything showing up onthe test. does anyone know if Nardil has any amphetamine or other suspect components that will give a positive test?
My last drug screen was positive for Adderall and that was nerve racking enough to explain to my former employer.
For just once, I'd like to have a clean drug test so I can go in and not have to explain anything about my history.

Nardil (Phenelzine) is metabolized in the liver. Byproducts are metabolites called phenylacetic acid and p-hydroxyphenylacetic acid. There are other minor metabolites too.
None of these should raise any questions on a drug screen. There wouldn't be a false-positive for amphetamines. I've HEARD that Parnate has amphetamine like metabolites, but Nardil definitely does not. You should be safe.
Anyone else want to agree or disagree? I'm not a toxicologist, so I can't guarantee my answer, but I'm pretty sure...

Tapmonk says nothing will show up on the drug test.I may call a lab or two to get their feedback on this issue. I'd hate to have to explain it even though so many are on psych meds today, it's just one more thing I rather not deal with.
I know with Heath Ledger everything showed up in his blood but what lab test is done for tocxicology versus a work drug screen is anyone's guess. For all I know the drug screens for work may have gotten more specific too.
Jobs today want everyone to be a saint, young, no work issues, clean in body and mind, and financially stable, no arrests, no traffic tickets, on and on. Do they do this for all the workers that are hired oversees too? Probably not. That's why all the jobs are going there.

Good idea ease your mind but can you somehow what your employee tests for? Imagine different professions require different ones. Phillipa read post on work thread too now it's hair and nails time too.

Hi everyone, semi new around here. I had to go through a drug screening to work at (of all places) ExpressScrips awhile back. I was on Parnate at the time and KNEW I was going to test positive for amphetimines. Sure enough I did but because I was knowledgable about the drug and so were they it really wasn't too hard to straighten out. I know that Nardil does not have that problem (nor does my favorite MAOI of them all, Marplan) so you should be fine.

Thanks all for your feedback. My original response got sucked up into the atmosphere(hate that especially when you put so much effort into a response at times) so hopefully this one will materialize.
I knew one MAO was related to a positive amphetamine test and so Parnate is the one, that is good news for me.
Through my search online for info about this topic I found out lots of things like what OTC drugs will give false positive results on a drug test so that was immensely important.
I think my test should be negative unless the drug test they use is so sophisticated but the most common test called a NIDA-5 includes Opiates, PCP, amphets, MJ and Cocaine. The next higher level includes barbs, benzos, methadone, Quaaludes and Darvon. Then other drugs can be added like alcohol, inhalents, etc. depending on how much a company wants to spend.

Benzo's in the same test as 'ludes? Wow, that would disqualify almost the whole population of any one civilised country.... :-)

Oh yeah, I personally don't know anything about 'ludes. What are they? Benzos are pretty commonly used so you're right...
What you should also be able to find out is how many of the hiring people are testing positively too. That would be fun to know.
