cytomel

Posted by furball on January 29, 2008, at 5:59:32

I have been on 100 mcg of synthroid. Then for the last 6 months was on 5mcg of cytomel. I was feeling good - some heart palpipations at night when I lay down but great energy - losing inches and increased stamina when working out. Able to sustain 5 days a week 1.5 hour a day work out routine. Waoke up fresh and ready to go. No afternoon sleepiness like before. Then doctor discovered I was vitamn D deficient put me on 1.25 mg prescription vitamin D and took me off the cytomel saying i didn't need it and that it "muddied" test results. Bee off cytomel for about 2 weeks and I started sprouting facial hair and just feel yucky - sluggish like someone had sucked the energy out of me. Doc insists the cytomel dosage was too low for it to have any effect. I am still taking the synthroid. Now also diagnosed with fatty liver (non alcoholic) and have started on Liv 52 today. Have lost 43 lbs and 3 dress sizes in the last 4 months and feel great. My BP is normal (118/80) without meds now and resting heart rate was 60 when checked a week ago. It has been so hard for me to start losing weight and I feel so good and am scared to go back to feeling like crap again and not being able to sustain my excercise level.
I still need to lose another 40 lbs to reac my goal (ideal) weight of 160 lbs. Should I insist that I resume the cytomel or is this just psychological and should I just stay off it?
Please help!

Nobody knows you like you do. Nobody knows how you feel like you do. You could do one of three things:

Be respectful, polite, yet very firm with doctor in getting back to where you were.

Get another doctor.

Order your own on the net. Thyroid meds are easy to get.
