Hi Scott,

We have missed you. I couldn't figure out whether you hadn't been posting because you were worse, or if it was because you had finally found something that worked for you and you were out there enjoying life and taking a break from all our tales of depression and anxiety.

Glad you're back. How *are* you doing?

Marsha

I see from some of the other messages that you must be doing better, much better. What finally helped?

Hi Marsha.

> I see from some of the other messages that you must be doing better, much better.

Yes.

Woohoo!

> What finally helped?

The addition of Deplin made quite a difference. It seems to be "sticking". Deplin supposedly increases the rate of synthesis of the 3 main monoamine neurotramsmitters (dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin). By itself, Deplin monotherapy probably helps very few people with moderate to severe depression. It seems to be most useful as an adjunct. It *might* be especially effective when combined with MAOIs. That's just an initial observation. (Make more neurotransmitter [Deplin], destroy less [MAOI).

In my opinion, the theories we come up with as to neurobiological function versus psychopharmacology are mostly irrelevant to finding treatments that work. This must be done empirically given the apparent plethora of individual pathological physiologies. Making biological associations and venturing an educated guess is what comes from clinical experiments. There is a wealth of neuroscientific research data, but little understanding of how everything in the brain works in concert, whether in health or illness.

Currently:

Nardil 60mg
nortriptyline 150mg
Lamictal 200mg
Abilify 10-20mg (currently tweaking dosage)
Deplin

Each drug has demonstrated itself to be critical to the efficacy of my treatment upon experimental dosage reductions and attempted discontinuations.

Best Wishes.

- Scott
