Screws coming loose

Posted by Greenmtn on December 21, 2007, at 7:54:56

Wow I was doing so well since my last hospitalization and med change June/ July 07. I had been seriously depressed since winter. Missed work uncontrollable thought about wanting to die etc.. Now the Bad thoughts and hopeless feelings are pushing back in. The med change in July was stop Depakote and start Lamictal plus Emsam. What worked until last week or so(I felt way best I have felt in years)=

200 MG Lamictal
Emsam up from 6mg to 9mg Nov 14
2 mg Clonazapam bed time.

From the start of Emsam terrible insomnia but still felt OK until exhaustion set in. Tried Ambien and Lunesta which did almost nothing.

Recently have been taking Trazodone 100 mg which allows about 6 hrs sleep. When I wake up my nose is completely stuffed up. Could trazodone so dramatically screwed me up?

Help please.

One dose of trazadone was enough for me. I wasn't on a MAOI then but it left me with such a hangover the next day and terrible anxiety..I take seroquel, clonazapam and zopiclone at night..was scared to take seroquel at first but no horrible feeling the next day..but lots of people do well on trazadone..maybe talk to you doctor about it..

I'm sorrying you are feeling bad. I wouldn't doubt that trazadone may have something to do with it. I would contact my doctor if the initiation of trazadone for sleep coincided with the onset of your symptoms.

Also, FWIW, trazadone gives me a stuffy nose too. It's like clockwork, I take trazadone, 30 minutes later, I'm stuffy. For the longest time I thought there must be some kind of pollen that only came out at night...

Seldom

well, it also has priapism as a side effect and the two are related believe it or not.

Something about alpha-adrenergic something or other.

In either case, blood goes where it shouldn't at the time.

I use a nasal spray at night for my nose.

Seldom.

I spoke to the doctor on the phone And he said "Well we know that you respond differently to medications than most people. Just stop taking the trazodone and see what happens" Last night I took no trazodone, slept about 3 hours, but feel MUCH better. It's like I got my brain working again after the Trazodone gummed it up. My cognitive functions were way slow on traz.. I'd much rather be feeling good with insomnia than terribly depressed.

It feels so good to have you all hear me and respond. Sometimes I feel alone struggling with stuff. I really really thank you.

Gee, I belong to that club: the you don't respond like most people do to medications-club....

I am also a member of the "must be depression" cause nothing works for your fatigue- club...

But i do attend the empty-pockets dance club socials. I am the only one there or rather here......without any trazadone either.......florence

Isn't it Weird how a doc could say you don't respond to medications like other people do? Is there just One Way people respond to a given medication? I think not. I like my doc. I think he's just frustrated and overworked. But its his job to deal with these issues. His advice actually did work.

Fatigue is not a fun club to belong to. I got alot of energy from the Emsam. YMMV. Best of luck. Sometimes its just so hard to keep plugging away finding what works for you. Sometimes it pays off. It did for me after so many years and wanting to say "No more, I can't take any more of this"
