Mirtazepine

Posted by Sigismund on October 15, 2007, at 3:18:11

This would be a great sleeping aid if it had a half life of 6 hours rather than 40 to 60.

Is there any other drug that does what mirtazepine does but has a shorter half life?

Is it the 5ht2c(?) antagonism that gives it a decent sex profile?

What else is there? Tolvon?

Didn't like cyproheptadine. Too long acting.

I feel bad enough when I wake up without having to drag myself around till after lunch feeling poisoned.

I relate completely with your dissatisfaction of mirtazapine.

Tolvon apparently still has a long half-life, up to 60hrs, but it is the closest thing to mirtazapine.

Have you considered/tried any of the tricyclics? I dont remember amitriptyline giving me a hangover, and it certainly got me to sleep easily.

trazodone with all its sideeffects,

diphenydramine but with no effects on libido instead slight atropine like (anticholinergic) properties.

I myself can take 15mg of mirtazapine IN THE DAYTIME without too many problems. It was just the higher doses that gave ME problems (excessive sedation). Now THAT is 'apparently' paridoxical. Maybe we're both freaks! ;)
