A number of the past EMSAM threads indicate that it can take up to 6 weeks at the correct dosage to start getting the full effect of this patch, and this is true for other irreversible MAOIs as well. Probably worth doing a search for more info.

thanks
done probably close to 100 hrs research online
all threads on here as well as many other sites
many people have 1st or 2nd day response
6 wks for FULL effect
im at 5 wks w/ no effect
just wondering if there is anyone who also was at 5 wks w/ no effect & if magically 6th week they feel different?

Been there, done that. About 3 weeks at 9mg and nothing. Then I started the 12mg patch and it was a full 5 or 6 MORE weeks before it helped. It was a long time ago, but basically I think I just woke up one morning and all was different. Prior to hitting the 5 or 6 week mark (on 12mg (9 weeks total)) I think the only thing that happened was some EMsomnia around the 3rd week on the 12mg (6 weeks total (3 - 9 and 3 - 12)). You've come this far, I'd sure not stop until the end of 6 weeks on the 12mg patch.

thanks for the hope d0pamine
im just really praying this will work 4 me
these 5 wks have felt more like 5 months
its not like i havent waited 4 meds to not work before - its just ive done so much research on selegeline - & i feel its what my body needs - a powerful antidepressant which works on many neurotransmitters
luckily 4 me - ive had almost 0 side effects
patches stay on - no red marks
sleep is good enough
etc.
i will certainly stay on 12 mgs. a full 6 wks as you did
when you say you woke up 1 morning & all was different, how did you feel?
energy, clear headed, good mood, etc.
thank you soo much

>when you say you woke up 1 morning & all was different, how did you feel?

The persistent negative thoughts that had plagued me as well as the previously ever present "feeling of imminent doom" were gone and to a large extent so was the anhedonic "why bother" amotivational type issues that had given me so much trouble. The anhedonia continued to fade over the next few weeks. If any of these drugs are worth taking at all, EMSAM is certainly one of them. If you're not having trouble with side effects, I'll bet it ends up working well for you also. Keep us posted.

I love Emsam! Been on it since April.

The effects are cumalative so hang on. I, also have no sleep trouble from EMSAM-in fact, I put my new patch on right before bed so i'm ready to go in the morning.

Give this one a good long trial becuase if it works for you it is a great antidepressant The lack of side effects is just amazing.

Well, When I started it I had just come off stimulants and had quit smoking. I didn't feel like offing myself so I thought it was helping. I wasn't great but something made me feel hopeful.

It did take 6 weeks to really get going and then it seemed to get progressively better. After maybe 5 months on the 6mg patch I felt like I was losing ground so I went up to 9mg. Again, maybe it was just hope but I seemed to feel better pretty fast. I have just passed the 2 month mark at 9mg and for the last couple of weeks I have been doing very well.

All in all-I would say it takes 6wks to start seeing what EMSAM can really do but from that point it gets better and better.

Are you taking any supplements? They really help.
if not, take a look at the alternative board and start a regime. At the very least it will give you some distraction until EMSAM kicks in.

You might ask your dr. about samples or a script of Deplin. It is a form of folate that often increases peoples response to antidepressant meds.

Hang in there.

This seems to be limited to me, but I'll note that I was already getting a good response from EMSAM when I started DLPA at one point and it seemed that most if not all of the benefit I had gotten from the patch went away. I've heard many others rave about the combo, so I may be the only one strange enough to have had this happen. When I stopped the DLPA all became normal again within a couple of days.
