I found an aricle on multiple antidepressants

Posted by your#1fan on October 1, 2007, at 23:05:03

It is intresting, i only take just 1 and im fine.

But unforturnaly for some others, here is some help maybe. You may need to take multiple for diffrent nuerotransmitters. Like dopamine, norephinphine, and serotonin. I have heard of the fond Wellbutrin with Prozac but i heard it causes panic attacks because both antidepressants.

here it is :http://treatmentonline.com/treatments.php?id=1019

what do you think or opinion?

multiple. Its kinda hard to think combining antidpressants because they counteract eachother.

Hi,

If I understood the article correctly, it did not encourage taking several ADs at the same time. The suggestion was to try additional ADs (as monotherapy) if the first had no effect.

As for taking several antidepressants at the same time, that may also be necessary for some people who need a very small amount of med affecting a neurotransmitter which is not already "covered" by the first med. For instance, a person taking a relatively "clean" AD affecting serotonin such as celexa or lexapro might need a small boost of noradrenergic drug. The same person may not be able to tolerate the stimulating effect of the latter as a drug of first choice.

Nellie.

Multiple antidepressants are my norm

I haven't been on just one medication in many years. It is always a combination of meds that I've been put on. I can tolerate 2 or 3 but beyond that it gets too complicated to manage all of the meds and it is difficult to know which med is doing which function so you just keep on all of them even if perhaps two are really working. It's too risky to decrease meds once you find something that works although I still believe lower doses are the key to targeting various neurotransmittors and keeping SE's to a minimum.

I take Wellbutrin and Prozac, and it's been great. The Wellbutrin was great as an AD but no good alone b/c i was having terrible mood swings.

So the combo is working for now, but we'll see. Everything else i have been on has pooped-out :(

I have my fingers crossed.
