Anyone know if these two meds would be compatible? Tianeptine depletes serotonin while I believe Lamictal slightly raises it? Thanks

Polarbear sounds like a miracle drug at age 61 think I'll ever get a chance to use it? As it seems to cover everything. Thanks so much Phillipa

Polarbear,
i have actually taken tianeptine, with moderate helpfulness for depression, but its not enough so I wanted to know if it could be taken with Lamictal or if they would sort of cancel each other out??
ThanksJB

JB,Maybe Larry Hoover can help you out with this question. You could also send an e-mail to Dr. Ivan Goldberg at Depression Central web site. He has promptly answered questions for me in the past. He specializes in TRD and hard to treat bipolar depression.

Yes, you can take tianeptine with Lamictal. There's no reason to think there would be a serious interaction. I've taken tianeptine with Lamitcal, and I've also taken with SSRIs and a few other drugs and had no problems. Official data on the pharmacokinetics of tianeptine is hard to find unfortunately, and most ineraction checkers only civer US approved drugs. I had the same problem getting info on amisulpride.

I wanted to know the answer to this question as I am on Lamictal and am thinking about taking tianeptine.
A few weeks ago I did take one 12.5 mg tianeptine tablet but that night I got a terrible migraine and so I've been very reluctant to try again. Such is my desperation that I probably will take it again although this time I will be taking 1/4 of a tablet. I have no idea if the migraine was related to the combination of the meds but I do feel certain that it was related to the tianeptine.fuchsia

fuscia,
I was on tianeptine and was going on to Lamictal, I guess the opposite of you. I did not get a headache, but definitely did not feel good. It could easily be in my head, but I tried it for a few days and it was uncomfortable enough to stop my trial with Lamictal. I'm sure its fine technically, but I did not like it personallyJB

JB
What dose did you start on with the Lamictal? I would expect you wouldn't be able to tell whether the problem was the combination or the Lamictal itself. I had some headaches and strange head sensations as I adjusted my dose upwards on the Lamictal but these settled down when I stabilized the dose and the results of the Lamictal were good.
